How to Get Visa Sponsorship as a Sourcing Coordinator
Target companies with active supply chain teams
Large manufacturers, retailers, and logistics firms file the most H-1B petitions for sourcing roles. Focus your search on companies with dedicated procurement or supply chain departments, since they hire sourcing coordinators repeatedly and understand the sponsorship process.
Frame your degree as a specialty occupation match
Sourcing Coordinator roles require analytical and procurement knowledge tied to a specific field of study. Connect your coursework in operations, logistics, or business directly to the job duties. This framing matters when your employer files the H-1B petition.
Apply to employers who already sponsor sourcing roles
Check Department of Labor disclosure data for companies that have filed LCAs for sourcing or procurement job titles. These employers have done it before and are far less likely to hesitate when the time comes to file your H-1B petition.
Address sponsorship directly but briefly in interviews
Don't wait for employers to raise your OPT status. State your authorization clearly: you're authorized to work now, OPT runs through a specific date, and H-1B sponsorship would be needed after that. Clarity builds confidence and removes ambiguity from the conversation.
Build supplier and vendor relationship experience early
Sourcing Coordinator roles that involve negotiation, vendor management, and cross-functional coordination are stronger H-1B candidates than purely administrative positions. Prioritize roles with measurable responsibilities, since richer job duties make the specialty occupation argument easier to support.

Can I work as a Sourcing Coordinator on F-1 OPT?
Yes. Sourcing Coordinator positions are standard professional roles that fall within OPT's authorized employment category. Your work must be directly related to your field of study, so degrees in supply chain management, business, operations, or industrial engineering are the most straightforward fits. If your degree is in a different field, confirm the connection with your DSO before accepting an offer.
Do Sourcing Coordinator jobs typically lead to H-1B sponsorship?
Many do, particularly at mid-to-large companies with established procurement teams. Sourcing Coordinator roles generally meet the specialty occupation standard because they require specific degree-level knowledge in supply chain, business, or engineering. Employers in manufacturing, retail, and tech tend to sponsor these roles more frequently than smaller firms. Filtering for sponsorship-friendly employers on Migrate Mate is the fastest way to find realistic opportunities.
Does a Sourcing Coordinator role qualify for the STEM OPT extension?
It depends on your degree, not the job title. If your degree is classified under a STEM-designated field, such as supply chain management, industrial engineering, management information systems, or operations research, you can apply for the 24-month STEM extension regardless of your job title. Confirm your degree's CIP code with your DSO, since that classification determines eligibility, not what your employer calls your position.
What should I do if my OPT authorization period is ending before I receive an H-1B decision?
If your employer files your H-1B petition before your OPT expires and you have a timely filed receipt notice, you may be eligible for a 240-day cap-gap extension that lets you continue working. This only applies if you're in valid F-1 status and your OPT is still active at the time of filing. Talk to your DSO well before your OPT end date so there's enough time to coordinate with your employer.
Are there specific industries where Sourcing Coordinator roles are more OPT-friendly?
Manufacturing, consumer goods, e-commerce, and retail tend to have the highest volume of Sourcing Coordinator openings and the most experience hiring international candidates. These industries run large procurement operations that depend on specialists, which makes the specialty occupation argument more straightforward. Technology companies sourcing hardware or components are also strong fits. Browse current openings by industry on Migrate Mate to identify which employers are actively hiring OPT candidates.
