Can I work as a freelance musician on OPT?
Self-employment is technically permitted on OPT, but it requires meeting specific conditions: you must own at least 50% of the business and be actively engaged in work related to your degree. Does a music degree qualify me for STEM OPT extension?
No. Music degrees are not on the DHS STEM Designated Degree Program list, so musicians on OPT are limited to the standard 12-month authorization period.
