How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Supply Clerk
Confirm your SOC code before applying
Supply Clerk roles typically fall under SOC 43-5071. Confirm this with your employer before accepting an offer, as your DSO needs the correct occupational code to verify your OPT job qualifies and meets the training plan requirement.
Target employers with existing OPT infrastructure
Large logistics companies, hospital systems, and government contractors frequently hire OPT workers and already understand the authorization process. Smaller employers may not know OPT rules, so come prepared with a one-page explainer covering your work authorization timeline and requirements.
Highlight supply chain coursework on your resume
If your degree included logistics, operations management, or procurement coursework, list it prominently. This directly ties your academic background to the role, strengthening the training plan your DSO submits and making the OPT job relationship easier to justify.
Understand the difference between pre-completion and post-completion OPT
Pre-completion OPT limits you to part-time work during the semester. Most Supply Clerk positions are full-time, so post-completion OPT is the right fit. Confirm with your DSO which authorization type applies to your timeline before submitting applications.
Ask HR about the I-9 process before your first day
On day one, your employer completes Form I-9 using your EAD as work authorization. Contact HR in advance to confirm they accept EADs and know the correct document codes. Delays at this stage can push back your official start date.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Do Supply Clerk jobs qualify for OPT work authorization?
Yes. Supply Clerk roles qualify for OPT as long as the position is directly related to your degree field. If your degree is in supply chain management, logistics, business operations, or a related field, the connection is straightforward. Your DSO will confirm the relationship between your job duties and your academic program before approving the OPT recommendation.
Can I get a STEM OPT extension working as a Supply Clerk?
Possibly. STEM OPT extension requires that your degree appears on the STEM Designated Degree Program List and that your employer is enrolled in E-Verify. Supply chain management, industrial engineering, and operations research degrees commonly qualify. The Supply Clerk role itself must also involve applying skills from that STEM field. Confirm your degree code with your DSO before assuming you qualify.
How do I find Supply Clerk jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Migrate Mate lists Supply Clerk jobs filtered specifically for OPT and visa sponsorship eligibility, so you're not sorting through listings that require permanent work authorization. Many employers in warehousing, healthcare supply, and government contracting hire OPT workers regularly. Searching through a platform built for international students saves significant time during a period when your unemployment clock is already running.
What happens if my Supply Clerk job ends before my OPT expires?
You have a cumulative 90-day unemployment limit during standard OPT (extended to 150 days on STEM OPT). If your position ends, that clock starts immediately. You should begin applying for new positions right away and report any job change to your DSO within 10 days. Staying within the unemployment limit is required to maintain valid F-1 status.
Does part-time Supply Clerk work count toward OPT requirements?
During post-completion OPT, you must work at least 20 hours per week for the position to count as qualifying employment. Many Supply Clerk roles are full-time, but if you take a part-time position, confirm it meets the 20-hour minimum with your DSO. Working below that threshold counts as unemployment toward your 90-day limit, which can create compliance problems.
