Telemetry RN Jobs for OPT Students
Telemetry RN jobs are available to F-1 OPT students who hold an active RN license and a nursing degree from a U.S.-accredited program. Most roles require BLS and ACLS certification. Your OPT authorization must be in a field directly related to your nursing degree, and 24-month STEM OPT extension does not apply to nursing.

How to Get Visa Sponsorship in Telemetry RN
Verify your OPT is authorized for nursing
Your OPT must be tied to your nursing degree CIP code. Telemetry RN roles qualify as directly related employment. Confirm your EAD lists the correct start date before accepting any offer, as working before it is valid violates your status.
Secure your RN license before applying
Most telemetry units require an active state RN license, not just an ATT letter. Pass NCLEX and obtain licensure before applying. Some hospitals will extend conditional offers while you wait, but most expect licensure at the time of hire.
Target hospitals with established OPT hiring processes
Large health systems and academic medical centers hire OPT students more frequently than community hospitals. They have HR teams familiar with EAD verification and I-9 compliance, which reduces delays and misunderstandings during the onboarding process.
Apply early relative to your OPT start date
Hospital credentialing and onboarding can take four to eight weeks. Start applying at least two months before your OPT authorization begins so your employment start date aligns with your EAD. Late applications risk a gap in authorized employment.
Understand the 90-day unemployment limit strictly
OPT allows a maximum of 90 days of unemployment. Telemetry RN hiring timelines can be long due to credentialing. Track your unemployed days carefully and pursue per diem or float pool roles if your primary job search extends unexpectedly.

Get Access To All JobsFrequently Asked Questions
Can F-1 OPT students work as Telemetry RNs in the United States?
Yes, Telemetry RN roles qualify as directly related employment for nursing graduates on OPT. Your EAD must be active and your job must fall within your degree's field. A nursing degree from a U.S.-accredited program and an active state RN license are both required before starting work.
Does the 24-month STEM OPT extension apply to Telemetry RN jobs?
No. Nursing degree programs are not classified under STEM CIP codes, so Telemetry RN roles do not qualify for the 24-month STEM OPT extension. Nursing graduates receive the standard 12-month OPT period. Planning your H-1B or other visa sponsorship timeline from day one is important given this limitation.
How can I find Telemetry RN jobs that are open to OPT candidates?
Many hospitals do not explicitly advertise OPT eligibility in job postings, which makes it difficult to filter by work authorization status on general job boards. Migrate Mate is built specifically for F-1 OPT students and surfaces Telemetry RN opportunities from employers open to candidates on work authorization, saving you significant time in your search.
What certifications do Telemetry RN employers typically require from OPT candidates?
Most telemetry units require current BLS certification at minimum, with ACLS certification strongly preferred or required. Some hospitals also expect Basic Arrhythmia or cardiac monitoring certification. Having these completed before you apply strengthens your candidacy and avoids delays during hospital credentialing, which can otherwise slow your OPT employment start.
Can a Telemetry RN employer sponsor me for an H-1B visa after my OPT ends?
Registered nursing roles can qualify for H-1B sponsorship if the position meets the specialty occupation standard, which requires a specific bachelor's degree in nursing. Many large hospital systems have sponsored RNs for H-1B visas. Ask directly during the interview process, as sponsorship policies vary widely between health systems and community hospitals.
