Pharmaceutical Sales Representative Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a pharmaceutical sales representative in South Dakota?
South Dakota does not require a state-issued license specifically for pharmaceutical sales representatives. Most employers require a bachelor's degree, and earning a Certified National Pharmaceutical Representative credential through the National Association of Pharmaceutical Sales Representatives strengthens your candidacy. Candidates with backgrounds in clinical or laboratory sciences, healthcare, or business have the clearest path into the field with South Dakota's dominant health systems and regional medical groups.
How much do pharmaceutical sales representatives make in South Dakota?
Pharmaceutical sales representatives in South Dakota earn a median of about $77,210 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $49,070 for the lowest 10% to over $125,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire pharmaceutical sales representatives in South Dakota?
South Dakota pharmaceutical sales representative roles are posted by Furniture Mart USA, Alternative HR, and South Dakota Board of Regents and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Sanford Health and Avera Health also create indirect demand by attracting pharmaceutical representatives who call on their extensive network of clinics, hospitals, and specialty practices throughout the state.
Which South Dakota cities have the most pharmaceutical sales representative jobs?
Sioux Falls, Vermillion, and Brookings have the most pharmaceutical sales representative openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls dominates because it is home to Sanford Health and Avera Health's largest campuses, drawing representatives who cover high-volume specialty and primary care accounts, while Rapid City and Aberdeen support smaller but steady territories aligned with their regional hospital systems and independent physician practices.
Are there remote pharmaceutical sales representative jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. About 17% of pharmaceutical sales representative openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the role's fundamentally field-based nature. The portions of the work most likely to be conducted remotely are administrative tasks, virtual product training, and telehealth-focused account management rather than core territory sales activity.
How can I get hired as a pharmaceutical sales representative in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a medical device or healthcare sales support role with one of South Dakota's large health systems such as Sanford Health or Avera Health, where you build provider relationships and product knowledge before moving into a direct sales territory. Candidates who earn a Certified National Pharmaceutical Representative credential and gain experience in clinical settings, laboratory roles, or inside sales stand out for entry-level territory openings with regional pharmaceutical offices based in Sioux Falls.
Where can I find and apply to pharmaceutical sales representative jobs in South Dakota?
You can find and apply to pharmaceutical sales representative jobs in South Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings tied to the state. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your background and territory preferences, and apply directly through each listing.
