Phlebotomist Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a phlebotomist in Alabama?
Alabama does not require a state-issued phlebotomy license, but most Alabama employers require a nationally recognized certification such as the Phlebotomy Technician credential from the National Phlebotomy Association or the American Society for Clinical Pathology. The typical path is completing an accredited phlebotomy training program, which community colleges like Jefferson State and Lawson State offer in Alabama, then passing the certification exam before applying to hospital or clinic roles.
How much do phlebotomists make in Alabama?
Phlebotomists in Alabama earn a median of about $37,220 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $30,440 for the lowest 10% to over $45,710 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire phlebotomists in Alabama?
Employers hiring phlebotomists in Alabama right now include Labcorp, Quest Diagnostics, and LifeSouth Community Blood Centers, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Alabama's large integrated health systems tend to post the most consistent volume, particularly for both full-time hospital positions and per-diem mobile collection roles.
Which Alabama cities have the most phlebotomist jobs?
Mobile, Birmingham, and Fairhope have the most phlebotomist openings in Alabama. Birmingham drives the highest volume given UAB Health System's scale as one of the Southeast's largest academic medical centers, while Huntsville's growth in hospital infrastructure and Mobile's concentration of regional health networks account for steady demand in those markets.
Are there remote phlebotomist jobs in Alabama?
Yes, but they're rare. Phlebotomy is a hands-on clinical role that requires direct patient contact for blood draws, so the vast majority of positions are on-site. About 0% of phlebotomist openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve administrative, training, or quality assurance functions rather than direct patient collection.
How can I get hired as a phlebotomist in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a phlebotomy training program at an Alabama community college, then applying to internship or externship slots that programs like those at Jefferson State Community College coordinate with affiliated hospitals. UAB Health System and Huntsville Hospital Health System both accept new graduates for entry-level collector roles. Candidates who hold a certified nursing assistant credential or have worked as a medical assistant have a strong lateral advantage and are frequently considered for these openings.
Where can I find and apply to phlebotomist jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to phlebotomist jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to whichever fit your situation.
