Physical Therapy Assistant Jobs in Nebraska: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physical therapy assistant in Nebraska?
You become a physical therapy assistant in Nebraska by completing an associate degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapy assisting program, then passing the National Physical Therapy Examination for PTAs administered by the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy. After passing, you apply for licensure through the Nebraska Physical Therapy Practice Act licensing board under the Department of Health and Human Services. Nebraska does not currently participate in the PTA Licensure Compact, so your license is state-specific.
Which companies hire physical therapy assistants in Nebraska?
Employers hiring physical therapy assistants in Nebraska right now include Hillcrest Health & Living, Concentra, and HiredFirst, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Nebraska's largest hiring volume tends to come from health systems, skilled nursing facilities, and outpatient orthopedic groups concentrated in the Omaha and Lincoln metro areas.
Which Nebraska cities have the most physical therapy assistant jobs?
Omaha, Lincoln, and Bellevue have the most physical therapy assistant openings in Nebraska. Omaha drives the highest volume as the state's largest metro, anchored by major health systems and a dense network of outpatient clinics and long-term care facilities, while Lincoln's university medical community and Bryan Health campus sustain steady demand, and Grand Island serves as the primary hub for central Nebraska's rural rehabilitation needs.
Are there remote physical therapy assistant jobs in Nebraska?
Yes, but they're rare. Physical therapy assistant work is hands-on by nature, requiring direct patient contact for exercises, manual techniques, and functional assessments that cannot be performed remotely. About 0% of physical therapy assistant openings tied to Nebraska are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions typically involve documentation review, telehealth coordination, or supervisory administrative duties rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a physical therapy assistant in Nebraska with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for new-graduate positions at skilled nursing facilities and inpatient rehabilitation hospitals, which consistently hire PTAs without prior post-licensure experience. Madonna Rehabilitation Hospitals in Lincoln and Bryan Health in Lincoln both offer structured orientation programs for new PTAs. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as physical therapy aide or rehabilitation technician have an advantage, as that hands-on exposure is valued heavily. Holding an active Nebraska PTA license before applying is the single most important credential, since many facilities will not extend offers until licensure is confirmed.
Where can I find and apply to physical therapy assistant jobs in Nebraska?
You can find and apply to physical therapy assistant jobs in Nebraska on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level, preferred setting, and location, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
