Policy Analyst Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a policy analyst in New York?
A bachelor's degree in public policy, political science, economics, or a related field is the standard entry point, and many competitive roles require a master's in public policy or public administration. New York does not require a state-issued license to work as a policy analyst, but candidates who complete programs at schools like Columbia SIPA, CUNY, or the Rockefeller College at Albany carry a recognized advantage in the state's government and nonprofit hiring market.
Which companies hire policy analysts in New York?
Employers hiring policy analysts in New York right now include City of New York, DoubleVerify, and Spotify Usa, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of state agencies, municipal government offices, major hospital systems, and nationally prominent nonprofits means the pipeline of openings is unusually broad and consistent compared to most other states.
Which New York cities have the most policy analyst jobs?
New York and White Plains have the most policy analyst openings in New York. New York City drives the largest share through its density of city agencies, think tanks, and foundations, Albany is the center of state government and regulatory activity, and Buffalo has grown as a hub for health system and regional planning roles tied to major employers in the western part of the state.
Are there remote policy analyst jobs in New York?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 33% of policy analyst openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and research-intensive nature of the work. Roles focused on writing, data analysis, and policy development are the most likely to offer remote arrangements, while positions that require direct legislative liaison work or stakeholder meetings in Albany or New York City tend to require more in-office time.
How can I get hired as a policy analyst in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a paid fellowship or policy internship with a New York State agency, a New York City government office, or a major nonprofit. Programs like the New York City Urban Fellows and the New York State Executive Chamber internship bring in candidates without professional experience. Moving from adjacent roles such as research coordinator, legislative aide, or program associate at a nonprofit or health system is also a common route, and a completed master's thesis or policy capstone project strengthens any application.
Where can I find and apply to policy analyst jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to policy analyst jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across New York City, Albany, Buffalo, and the rest of the state. Find a role that fits and apply directly.
