Power Bi Developer Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a power bi developer in Texas?
Texas does not require a state-issued license to work as a power bi developer. The most direct path is earning a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or information systems, then building hands-on Power BI skills through coursework or personal projects. Microsoft's PL-300 certification, the Power BI Data Analyst Associate credential, is the industry standard that Texas employers consistently recognize and request in job listings as proof of technical readiness.
How much do power bi developers make in Texas?
Power bi developers in Texas earn a median of about $132,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,600 for the lowest 10% to over $183,680 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire power bi developers in Texas?
Employers hiring power bi developers in Texas right now include Primoris Services Corporation, TEK, and Aperia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Texas's concentration of energy corporations, regional banks, and large hospital networks means demand runs across multiple sectors rather than clustering in a single industry.
Which Texas cities have the most power bi developer jobs?
Houston, San Antonio, and Plano have the most power bi developer openings in Texas. Dallas leads because of its dense concentration of corporate headquarters and financial services firms, Houston's energy sector drives sustained analytics demand, and Austin's fast-growing tech industry has added a significant share of data-focused roles over the past several years.
Are there remote power bi developer jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 64% of power bi developer openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting the desk-based and highly portable nature of the work. Report development, DAX modeling, and dashboard publishing are the tasks most commonly performed fully remotely, while stakeholder discovery sessions and enterprise rollouts tend to require occasional on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a power bi developer in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is transitioning from a data analyst or business analyst role, where Power BI experience is often used informally before it becomes a formal job title. Large Texas employers in healthcare and energy, including hospital networks and midstream companies, frequently hire junior data analysts and provide internal upskilling. Building a GitHub portfolio of published Power BI reports and earning the Microsoft PL-300 certification gives candidates without a formal developer title a credible, verifiable edge when applying.
Where can I find and apply to power bi developer jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to power bi developer jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries and metro areas. Find roles that fit your experience level and location preference, then apply directly to each one.
