Tips for Your Power Bi Developer Job Search
Quantify your dashboards on your resume
List the number of reports you built, the teams or users who relied on them, and any measurable outcome your work drove. Hiring managers for power bi developer roles want to see scale and impact, not just a list of tools you have used.
Showcase your DAX and data model work
Create a public portfolio repository with sample Power BI files that demonstrate complex DAX measures, star schema modeling, and row-level security. Many candidates list Power BI on their resume but cannot show proof, so a working file sets you apart.
Filter openings by the data stack, not just the title
Power bi developer job descriptions vary widely. Some roles require Azure Synapse or Fabric, others are SQL Server and on-premises only. Read the full tech stack before applying so your resume and cover note speak directly to the tools the team actually uses.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists power bi developer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a live demo for technical interviews
Many power bi developer interviews include a take-home or live build exercise using a sample dataset. Practice building a complete report, explaining your model design choices, and walking through a DAX formula out loud before your first technical screen.
Negotiate using your report adoption data
When discussing compensation, reference concrete evidence of adoption, such as how many active users your dashboards had or how your reports replaced a manual process. That business context gives you a stronger position than citing certifications alone.
Power Bi Developer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most power bi developers?
Infosys, Intone Networks, and KBR are hiring the most power bi developers right now, with openings concentrated in Texas, Virginia, and Georgia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Industries driving the most demand include financial services, healthcare systems, and large-scale retail and logistics operations.
How many power bi developer jobs are remote?
About 75% of power bi developer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, making it one of the more flexible roles in the data space. Report development, DAX modeling, and dashboard maintenance are the sub-areas most commonly offered fully remote, while roles requiring close collaboration with business intelligence teams or data warehouse architects are more likely to ask for in-office time.
How do you become a power bi developer?
Start by learning Power BI Desktop through Microsoft's free learning paths and build several end-to-end projects using publicly available datasets. Study data modeling concepts, particularly star schema design, and practice writing DAX measures beyond basic aggregations. Earning the Microsoft PL-300 certification demonstrates a baseline that many employers require. From there, build a portfolio of published reports and seek roles in data analyst or business intelligence analyst positions that include Power BI as a core tool, which is the most common entry path into a dedicated power bi developer title.
Can you get a power bi developer job with little experience?
Yes, entry-level power bi developer roles exist, but you need to replace experience with proof of work. Build a public portfolio of Power BI files using open datasets from sources like government data portals, covering different chart types, calculated columns, and row-level security scenarios. Pair that with the PL-300 certification and a working knowledge of SQL. Employers hiring junior candidates are primarily evaluating whether you can build a clean, functional report independently, so demonstrable output matters more than years on a resume.
What does the power bi developer interview process look like?
Most power bi developer interviews follow a pattern of an initial recruiter screen, a technical interview with a data or business intelligence team lead, and a practical exercise. The technical interview typically covers your approach to data modeling, how you handle slowly changing dimensions, and your DAX problem-solving process. The practical exercise is usually a timed build using a sample dataset, followed by a walkthrough where you explain your design decisions. Some employers add a business requirements conversation to assess how well you translate stakeholder needs into a report structure.
Where can I find and apply to power bi developer jobs?
You can find and apply to power bi developer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Search the available roles, find ones that match your experience and target industry, and apply directly to each listing without leaving the platform.
