Practice Assistant Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a practice assistant job in Chicago?
Target Chicago's three main hiring pockets: the large hospital networks anchored in Streeterville and the Illinois Medical District, the law and consulting firms concentrated in the Loop, and the specialty clinics and private practices spread across Lincoln Park, Lakeview, and the North Shore suburbs. Candidates who stand out locally have either relevant clinical or administrative experience and can name specific tools or workflows common to Chicago's dominant healthcare and professional services employers.
Which companies hire practice assistants in Chicago?
Companies currently hiring practice assistants in Chicago include UChicago Medicine, ROSIN EYECARE, and Holland & Knight, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's market is shaped by large integrated health systems, regional law firms, and professional services groups, all of which tend to hire practice assistants in higher volumes than smaller independent practices.
Are there remote practice assistant jobs in Chicago?
Yes, though the share depends heavily on the role type. Hands-on clinical practice assistant positions are almost entirely on-site, while administrative, scheduling, and billing-focused variants are more likely to allow flexibility. About 0% of practice assistant openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with the remote fraction concentrated in back-office and care-coordination functions rather than direct patient support.
How can I get a practice assistant job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is through a front-desk or patient services coordinator role at one of the city's many outpatient clinics or multi-specialty groups, which regularly hire without prior practice assistant titles. Employer types that take entry-level candidates include community health centers in neighborhoods like Pilsen and Humboldt Park, urgent care chains with high turnover, and large hospital systems that run internal onboarding programs. A medical terminology course and any hands-on healthcare volunteer work strengthen a first application significantly.
Which industries hire the most practice assistants in Chicago?
Most practice assistant openings in Chicago sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's density of academic medical centers, regional law firms, and professional services headquarters means demand in those sectors consistently outpaces the broader Midwest average for this role.
