INTRODUCTION
You're the technical leader for Internal Tools, owning architecture, quality, and engineering standards for the tools our internal teams rely on every day. This isn't a maintenance role. You'll bring recommendation, ranking, and other data-driven techniques to bear on how our tools work, and push for smarter automation wherever it saves people time. We're looking for someone adept in AI-collaborative development who can define the right problems and balance human and technology intelligence to solve them thoughtfully. You'll work directly with the Engineering Manager, who brings product requirements and technical vision; you turn them into specs, system designs, and implementation plans. You're the team's top technical voice while also being a high-output IC. Expect roughly a 80/20 split between hands-on coding and technical leadership.
Responsibilities
- Own technical direction for Internal Tools, including front-end architecture and component/design system strategy, and turn product requirements into technical designs and engineering tickets
- Design and build new internal tools and admin features end-to-end, front-end through back-end
- Find opportunities to apply recommendation, ranking, and search techniques to our tools, partnering with data science and product to set priorities
- Drive down technical debt through targeted refactors and set engineering standards through design reviews
- Build reusable components and tooling that pay off beyond a single project
- Be the escalation point for deep debugging, and partner with security to keep admin interfaces locked down
- Help engineers grow through pairing, code review, and direct feedback; write the specs and docs that let the team build with confidence
QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years building software, with a track record of shipping systems that scale
- Strong system design and architecture skills
- Extensive experience in JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js
- Advanced, production-grade React skills
- Hands-on with PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or Elasticsearch, including performance tuning
- Experience building and scaling backend systems, ideally at a startup or small company
- Track record of mentoring engineers
WHAT SETS YOU APART
- Production experience with Next.js
- Experience with recommendation, ranking, or search systems
- Product-minded: you think about users, not just systems
- Background building internal tools or ops platforms
- Comfortable with cloud infrastructure, Docker/Kubernetes, and CI/CD
- Familiar with prompt engineering, fine-tuning, or shipping ML in production
We may use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to support parts of the hiring process, such as reviewing applications, analyzing resumes, or assessing responses and identifying potential inconsistencies or verification signals in application materials based on available information. These tools assist our recruitment team but do not replace human judgment. Final hiring decisions are ultimately made by humans. Mid Level Principal Full Stack Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a mid level principal full stack engineer job?
Position yourself around ownership, not just contribution. Highlight projects where you made architectural choices, debugged complex systems independently, or guided less experienced teammates. Applications that show you drove a feature or service from planning through deployment stand out far more than those that list technologies. Tailor your resume to reflect outcomes and scope, not just tasks completed.
Which companies hire mid level principal full stack engineers?
Companies hiring mid level principal full stack engineers right now include Scale AI, Huntington Bank, and Shield AI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Hiring at this level covers fast-scaling startups, established enterprises, and product-led companies looking for engineers who can own delivery without heavy oversight.
Are there remote mid level principal full stack engineer jobs?
Yes, and remote availability is strong at this level. About 32% of mid level principal full stack engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how widely distributed engineering teams have become. Fully on-site roles still exist, typically at companies prioritizing in-person collaboration for complex, cross-functional product work.
How do I move up to a mid level principal full stack engineer role?
The progression from early-career to mid level comes from deliberately deepening your scope over time. Focus on building ownership of complete features rather than isolated tasks, getting comfortable with front-to-back decisions, and demonstrating measurable impact on shipped products. Engineers who take on production responsibilities, contribute to code reviews, and show consistent reliability across multiple projects tend to reach mid level faster.
Which industries hire the most mid level principal full stack engineers?
Mid Level principal full stack engineer roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Banking & Financial Services, and Artificial Intelligence, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors prioritize engineers who can work across the full stack because their products require rapid iteration, scalable architecture, and tight integration between client-facing and backend systems.
