Process Engineer Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a process engineer in Louisiana?
Most process engineer roles in Louisiana require a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, although mechanical and industrial engineering graduates are also hired into the role. Senior and lead positions often favor candidates who hold or are pursuing Professional Engineer licensure through the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board, which administers the Fundamentals of Engineering and Principles and Practice of Engineering exams. Gaining early experience in Louisiana's petrochemical corridor through co-ops or internships significantly strengthens your candidacy.
Which companies hire process engineers in Louisiana?
Louisiana process engineer roles are posted by ReCon Management Services, Packaging Corporation of America, and Worley and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Louisiana's deep concentration of refineries and chemical plants along the Mississippi River corridor means a large share of these openings are tied to continuous-process or batch-chemical manufacturing facilities.
Which Louisiana cities have the most process engineer jobs?
Geismar, Baton Rouge, and Cameron account for the largest share of process engineer openings in Louisiana. Baton Rouge leads because of the dense cluster of petrochemical refineries and chemical plants along the Mississippi River, while New Orleans draws openings tied to offshore energy services and industrial logistics, and Lake Charles anchors a growing concentration of LNG export terminals and specialty chemical facilities.
Are there remote process engineer jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Process engineering is fundamentally a hands-on discipline tied to physical plant operations, so most roles require on-site presence. About 13% of process engineer openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting how few tasks can be performed away from the facility. The portions of the role most amenable to remote work are process modeling, data analysis, and technical report preparation.
How can I get hired as a process engineer in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to co-op and new-graduate programs at Louisiana's large refinery and chemical operators, which regularly onboard engineering graduates into rotational or associate engineer roles. Companies such as ExxonMobil and Dow Chemical run structured early-career programs at their Baton Rouge and Lake Charles facilities. Candidates with an internship in a process or chemical environment, even outside Louisiana, gain a measurable edge, and passing the Fundamentals of Engineering exam signals readiness to employers before full PE licensure.
Where can I find and apply to process engineer jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to process engineer jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Louisiana openings across industries including petrochemical, refining, and specialty chemical manufacturing. Find roles that fit your experience and location, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
