We have the following opening available for a Principal Specialist, PC Category Procurement at our Hillsboro, NH operation. This can be a remote position with weekly travel to Hillsboro, NH.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The purchasing team is responsible for supplier selection, negotiation and contracting with vendors. Also responsible for identifying and achieving cost savings. Follows up with vendors as needed regarding order status.
Principal Specialist sets strategy for the SP NAFTA division, and aligns self and team with SP NAFTA and Global objectives.

- Ability to work in partnership with Global Purchasing Teams, customers (manufacturing, engineering, quality) and suppliers
- Ability to develop creative solutions – different materials, processes, etc. to save cost, improve quality and deliveries
- Analytical capabilities
- Strategic capabilities: ability to visualize the market conditions in the near / future and develop plans to proactively protect the company
- Working understanding of mechanical commodities (metal stamping and diecasting, plastic injection molding)
- Leadership and direction within Hillsboro and the purchasing team
- Our customers’ purchasing resources are very technically savvy and experienced – our purchasing resources need to be the same.
- Supplier audits and cost down activities: analysis of the cost at suppliers and how to work towards reduced TCO (total cost of ownership).
- Understand the cost (to us) of quality issues, extra inspections, certifications, etc.
- Understand the value added of the supplier: quality systems, products, processes, and service provided
- Discussions with internal customers before negotiations are started with a supplier: what feedback is there on their materials – manufacturing, engineering, supplier quality.
- Seek advice from quality, supplier quality, manufacturing, and engineering about the quality of the purchase
- Get an insight into new products etc. by reading trade journals and publications. Do research on the internet to keep updated on technology and suppliers. Attend meetings, trade shows, etc.
- Find the best deals for the company by applying advanced negotiating methods
- Find the most suitable suppliers that meet business requirements
- Developing & implementing purchase contracts and policies
- Evaluate suppliers based on price, quality, and service
- Visit manufacturing plants (domestic and international) and distribution centers for product and process inspection and verification
- Be familiar with the technicalities of goods or services (IMS) that are purchased
- Understand and communicate the contents of the Supplier Handbook
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Requires a BS in Engineering (EE, ME) plus a minimum of 5 years of related experience in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in Electronics manufacturing (SMT technology, PCB, LED)
- Superb interpersonal skills
- High level of computer skills: SAP, AI, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Self-starter, motivated, enthusiastic, project-oriented
- Must be able to work under pressure
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills
