Product Security Engineer Jobs in District of Columbia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a product security engineer in District of Columbia?
Most product security engineers in D.C. enter through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or software engineering, followed by roles in software development or IT security. There is no D.C.-specific state license for this role, but the local market heavily favors candidates with a security clearance and industry certifications like CISSP or CSSLP. Federal contracting firms in the District frequently hire engineers directly out of university programs, particularly those with internship experience at government agencies or defense contractors.
Which companies hire product security engineers in District of Columbia?
Companies currently hiring product security engineers in District of Columbia include Everforth ECS, Booz Allen Hamilton, and OneZero Solutions, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. D.C.'s dominant federal contracting ecosystem means a large share of openings come from firms supporting civilian agencies and the Department of Defense.
Which District of Columbia cities have the most product security engineer jobs?
The cities with the most product security engineer openings in District of Columbia are Washington, Bolling AFB, and Foggy Bottom. Washington D.C. drives the bulk of demand as the seat of federal government and home to major contractor headquarters, while Arlington and Bethesda attract openings from defense agencies and large consulting firms operating just across the District's borders.
Are there remote product security engineer jobs in District of Columbia?
Yes, though less than many purely analytical tech roles given the clearance and compliance requirements common here. About 48% of product security engineer openings tied to District of Columbia are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the clearance-dependent nature of much local work. Roles focused on policy development, secure code review, and cloud security architecture are the most likely to offer remote flexibility within this market.
How can I get hired as a product security engineer in District of Columbia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in D.C. is through a junior software developer or IT security analyst role at a federal contractor, where many firms run early-career programs specifically designed to train and clear new graduates. Booz Allen Hamilton, Leidos, and GDIT all maintain structured new-graduate hiring tracks in the region. Earning a CompTIA Security+ certification before applying and pursuing a clearance sponsorship opportunity gives candidates a meaningful edge over those without any credentials, and lateral moves from software development or network administration are common stepping stones.
Where can I find and apply to product security engineer jobs in District of Columbia?
You can find and apply to product security engineer jobs in District of Columbia on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the D.C. market. Search the listings, find the roles that match your experience and clearance level, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
