Production Manager Jobs in Chicago: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a production manager job in Chicago?
Focus on Chicago's strongest hiring sectors: food and beverage manufacturing, packaging, printing, and industrial equipment. Employers in Fulton Market, Cicero, and the southwest suburban corridor hire most actively. Candidates who combine hands-on floor experience with familiarity in lean manufacturing, Six Sigma, or ERP systems like SAP stand out. Networking through local manufacturing associations and applying directly on company career pages gives you a real edge in this market.
Which companies hire production managers in Chicago?
Chicago production manager roles are posted by CIBC, Eataly, and EY and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's mix of legacy food producers, packaging firms, and industrial manufacturers means openings appear across both large multinationals and mid-size regional operations throughout the metro area.
Are there remote production manager jobs in Chicago?
Yes, but only for certain types: hands-on floor and plant roles are almost always on-site, while production planning, scheduling, and supply chain coordination roles are more likely to allow flexibility. About 20% of production manager openings tied to Chicago are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, skewing toward analytical and cross-functional roles rather than direct manufacturing supervision positions.
How can I get a production manager job in Chicago with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chicago is moving up from a shift supervisor, lead operator, or production coordinator role inside a food, packaging, or consumer goods facility. Chicago's dense manufacturing base in areas like Cicero, Melrose Park, and the southwest suburbs offers steady entry-level hiring. Pursuing a lean manufacturing certificate or forklift certification adds credibility, and temp-to-hire placements through Chicago-area industrial staffing firms often convert into permanent production manager roles.
Which industries hire the most production managers in Chicago?
Chicago production manager roles concentrate in Energy, Retail, and Education, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Chicago's deep roots in food processing, printing, and industrial manufacturing, combined with its position as a Midwest logistics hub, make those sectors the most consistent sources of production manager demand in the region.
