INTRODUCTION
The Department of Psychology at Butler University (Indianapolis, IN) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Biological or Cognitive Psychology to start in August 2027. We seek a colleague who is committed to inclusive undergraduate teaching and collaborative research with undergraduate students. The Butler Psychology Department values candidates who share our commitment to engagement and inclusion of students, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Successful applicants will be broadly trained in psychology and will be ready to teach in a multidisciplinary university core curriculum. Standard teaching load is nine (9) credit hours per semester plus an active program of research involving undergraduate collaborators. We seek colleagues who will be ready to teach required psychology courses such as research methods and statistics (I & II) and introductory psychology. Additionally, the successful candidate will be able to teach at least one of the following: biological bases of behavior, cognitive processes, and/or learning, with the opportunity to teach upper-level electives in their related area of expertise. The ideal candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to evidence-based and engaged-learning pedagogies and to building an inclusive classroom environment for an increasingly diverse student body.
This position requires full-time, in-person instruction.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
A Ph.D. in Psychology or Cognitive/Behavioral Neuroscience (e.g., comparative psychology, computational neuroscience, or a related applied area such as health psychology) at the time of appointment is required. Applicants with an active research agenda in biological and/or cognitive areas will be prioritized. Applicants with research specializations that supplement and/or diversify the research expertise of our current faculty are especially encouraged to apply.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The Butler University Psychology Department is housed in the Sally Beck Suite of the renovated Holcomb building and includes faculty offices, labs including a newly fitted EEG lab, vivarium to house rodents, and classrooms. Butler University offers support for faculty development in many ways, including start-up funds for research, internal grants for collaborative research with undergraduates, a learning community for new faculty, and funds for faculty and students to travel to present research.
