Professor Jobs in Indianapolis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a professor job in Indianapolis?
Indianapolis hiring concentrates at research universities, health sciences programs, and community colleges tied to the city's large medical and technology sectors. Candidates with interdisciplinary backgrounds in health professions, business, or STEM have the strongest local edge. Publishing research connected to Indiana's life sciences corridor or holding clinical credentials alongside a terminal degree meaningfully strengthens your profile for the Indianapolis market.
Which companies hire professors in Indianapolis?

Indianapolis employers range from major research universities and academic medical centers to community colleges and private professional schools serving the city's workforce development needs.
Are there remote professor jobs in Indianapolis?
Yes, though remote availability is limited for professors since most roles involve in-person instruction, lab supervision, or clinical oversight. About 6% of professor openings tied to Indianapolis are remote or hybrid as of July 2026. Fully online or hybrid arrangements appear most often in continuing education, graduate business, and professional certificate programs based in Indianapolis.
How can I get a professor job in Indianapolis with little or no experience?

Visiting lecturer roles at IUPUI and Butler University also offer a foot in the door. Strong graduate teaching experience, local professional credentials in health or business, and connections to Indianapolis industry partners give entry-level candidates a concrete advantage.
