HIGH SCHOOL TEACHER
POSITION OBJECTIVES: Major responsibility of the position is to educate students in a manner consistent with our school mission statement. This includes planning, preparing, and delivering biblically integrated instruction in each of the defined subject areas and grade levels. Each teacher should have an understanding of the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual developmental milestones of the students they will teach; having the ability to formally and informally disciple students.
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS: The teacher is a Christian with an authentic and a mature personal relationship with Jesus Christ in both their professional and personal life with a calling and commitment to Christian education, displaying an inherent passion for God, students, and teaching. Teachers must establish and nurture positive relationships as they teach and disciple students and work closely with colleagues, parents, school administrators and community members, showing respect at all times.
Qualified teachers will also be characterized by demonstrating professional discernment and good judgment, as well as the ability to deal with sensitive and confidential issues in a tactful and professional manner. It is essential that the teacher sets a godly example that honors the school’s standards and expectations. The ability to address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner must also be evident. Each teacher should have an understanding of the social, emotional, physical, and spiritual developmental milestones of the students they will teach.
EDUCATIONAL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A bachelor’s degree in elementary/secondary education is required, as is a valid teaching license from the State of Indiana, (or eligible for licensure). ACSI certification is required, but may be obtained during the first year of employment. A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in an elementary/secondary classroom is preferred. Previous experience teaching Entrepreneurship, Intro to Business and Personal Finance or other business related subjects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Model Christian character at all times, actively promoting the educational philosophy of Heritage Christian School
- Responsible for working with students as they navigate through social, personal, academic and most importantly spiritual growth
- Develop and maintain an orderly classroom atmosphere, conducive to learning, using consistent, kind and firm discipline
- Organize and develop successful learning experiences in accordance with the school’s curriculum and philosophy emphasizing biblical integration and employing a variety of teaching methods
- Take reasonable precaution to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Communicate actively and openly with parents, in a timely manner, arranging additional parent conferences as needed, in addition to annual parent conferences
- Maintain accurate and current student progress and attendance records
- Utilize methods of evaluating student progress compatible with the school’s philosophy of grading
- Maintain an up-to-date set of lesson plans that provide adequate direction for a substitute teacher in the event of absence and submit a copy appropriately to the principal
- Attend and participate in faculty, in-service and grade-level meetings, and other school functions, such as open house events
- Adhere to and assist in upholding and enforcing the rules, regulations, and policies of the school as recorded in the employee, faculty and student handbooks or transmitted through the administrators
- Assist in selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials
- Perform non-teaching and extra-curricular duties, as requested and assigned
- Maintain proper teacher certification by ACSI and state accreditation agencies, demonstrating self-motivated, professional development
- Continue to remain current with updates in technology and technological resources

Physical Requirements: Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position. Must be able to maintain a stationary position for over 40-50% of work day. Must be able to traverse classroom and campus. Must be able to use computer and other audio-visual equipment. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs. Must be able to communicate with others. Specific vision abilities required in this position include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. The employee must be able to discern low volume sounds. Must be able to assist children for health and safety reasons. Must be able to position oneself to work with children.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Generally classroom setting. Possible change in temperature/humidity; potential for excessive noise, using computer/monitor screen. Some exposure to the elements is to be expected while assisting with student arrival/dismissal and recess duties. Duties may be occasionally performed on field trips away from school.
WORK SCHEDULE: Academic School Calendar. Hours: 7:30a-3:30p (Prek-4th), 7:45-3:45 (5th-12th)
