Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Indiana?
Indiana does not issue a separate state license for vocational rehabilitation counselors, but most employers require the Certified Rehabilitation Counselor credential issued by the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification. Earning the CRC typically requires a master's degree in rehabilitation counseling or a related field and a supervised internship. Counselors working for the Indiana Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services must also meet the agency's specific educational and certification standards before independent caseload assignment.
Which companies hire vocational rehabilitation counselors in Indiana?
Companies currently hiring vocational rehabilitation counselors in Indiana include Community Rehabilitation Hospitals, Lifepoint Health, and Ascension, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indiana's mix of state rehabilitation agencies, nonprofit disability service organizations, and hospital-affiliated vocational programs creates consistent demand across the state.
Which Indiana cities have the most vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs?
Indianapolis, Evansville, and Greenwood have the most vocational rehabilitation counselor openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the highest volume as the state capital and home to the largest concentration of state agency offices, hospital systems, and disability-serving nonprofits, while Fort Wayne and Evansville support steady demand through regional rehabilitation centers and community service organizations anchoring those metro areas.
Are there remote vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're limited, since the role typically involves in-person client assessments, job site visits, and coordination with local employers and service providers. About 0% of vocational rehabilitation counselor openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote work most common in administrative case management, intake coordination, and telehealth-based counseling roles rather than direct field placement work.
How can I get hired as a vocational rehabilitation counselor in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a rehabilitation counselor trainee or case aide position with the Indiana Division of Disability and Rehabilitative Services, which regularly brings in graduate students and new master's degree holders through structured training tracks. Goodwill of Central and Southern Indiana and Easter Seals Crossroads also hire employment specialists and job coaches as lateral entry roles that build the documentation and client coordination skills central to counselor work. Completing your supervised internship with an Indiana state agency or major nonprofit strengthens your application considerably, and earning the CRC credential before or shortly after graduation signals readiness to carry an independent caseload.
Where can I find and apply to vocational rehabilitation counselor jobs in Indiana?
