This team is seeking a Refrigeration Engineering Standards Program Manager with expertise in Refrigeration and Control systems who will manage the building systems engineering standards for developing prototypes and ongoing construction projects. This position will serve as a department expert and act as a "bridge" between the department and the broader organization. The position requires strong working knowledge in a wide variety of building types and systems (both the design of such systems and also installation and maintenance) with a focus on refrigeration design and controls.
This is a high-visibility, high-impact role for someone who is energized by building structure where there is ambiguity, who can translate complex technical requirements into clear standards, and who thrives in an organization where influence matters more than authority.
Key job responsibilities
Engineering Design Standards Ownership:
- Own refrigeration engineering design standards.
- Establish and maintain standards with cross-functional partners, including basis of design (BOD) for technical disciplines to meet company criteria and cost targets.
- Manage equipment specifications and design coordination.
Technical Innovation & Cost Management:
- Execute refrigeration cost reduction, energy conservation, and sustainability goals.
- Lead technical innovation initiatives for building systems and quality control.
Consultant & Vendor Management:
- Cultivate relationships with 3P engineering consultants and manage production of engineering documents.
- Track consultant quality and cost, own relationships with MEP/R and Controls consultants.
Quality Assurance & Technical Support:
- Conduct site inspections and facility audits. Provide technical expertise to Pre-Construction, Design, Construction, Facilities, and Operations teams.
- Support preventative maintenance SOPs and partner with Facilities to ensure systems align with established standards.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Serve as SME for Refrigeration and Controls topics.
- Work cross-functionally to share best practices, provide engineering solutions for site-specific designs, and review construction documents for accuracy and cost targets.
- Proven ability to efficiently plan and prioritize deliverables and resources across multiple projects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to make creative design recommendations and articulate technical justification to diverse stakeholders.
A day in the life
You will partner with 3P engineering consultants to develop programmatic Refrigeration design guardrails and articulate design justification to different groups within the organization. You will value-engineer Refrigeration systems and reduce overall program costs while ensuring the customer experience is not affected. You will attend meetings as required to address specific issues, make decisions and find solutions quickly and with confidence. You will take ownership of your work, display a great deal of initiative, and exercise sound judgment.
About the team
The WWRGD Design Standards Team develops and maintains integrated design standards and programmatic design resources for Amazon's retail portfolio enabling architects of record and contractors to efficiently deliver consistent, high-quality store environments at scale. Our products include specifications, construction assemblies, reference architectural sets, and digital tools including Revit/BIM resources. We support all store formats, from Daily Shops to Large Format Suburban stores and new exploratory formats, and we coordinate alignment across format-specific brand experiences.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Technology, or Reliability Engineering, or 6+ years of refrigeration industry experience.
- 6+ years of refrigeration industry experience.
- Strong working knowledge of building systems design, installation, and maintenance with focus on refrigeration design and controls.
- Experience with value engineering and cost reduction while maintaining quality standards.
- Experience managing stakeholder expectations, schedules, budgets, and scopes.
- Experience managing 3P engineering consultants.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with Amazon or retail construction projects.
- Experience with commissioning standards and processes.
- Knowledge of sustainability, energy conservation, and carbon reduction strategies.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
