Project Director Jobs in Vermont: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project director in Vermont?
Most project directors in Vermont hold a bachelor's degree in a field related to their industry, such as engineering, business, or public administration, and have progressed through senior project manager roles over several years. Vermont does not require a state-issued license for the title itself, but a PMP credential from the Project Management Institute is widely expected by major Vermont employers, particularly in healthcare, construction, and state government contracting.
How much do project directors make in Vermont?
Project directors in Vermont earn a median of about $80,800 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,950 for the lowest 10% to over $128,110 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project directors in Vermont?
Vermont project director roles are posted by HNTB Corporation, Weston & Sampson, and Beta Technologies and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Vermont's mix of large healthcare systems, financial services firms, and state agency contractors means openings appear across a broader range of sectors than the state's small size might suggest.
Which Vermont cities have the most project director jobs?
Burlington, South Burlington, and Winooski account for the largest share of project director openings in Vermont. Burlington drives the most volume as the state's largest city and home to its major medical, financial, and technology employers, while Montpelier generates openings through state government agencies and their contractors, and smaller markets often reflect the footprint of a single large employer nearby.
Are there remote project director jobs in Vermont?
Yes, and more than many senior roles, since project directors in desk-based industries such as financial services, software, and consulting often work remotely. About 40% of project director openings tied to Vermont are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting demand from employers comfortable with distributed leadership. Roles tied to construction, capital projects, or on-site program delivery are far less likely to offer remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a project director in Vermont with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is moving into a project coordinator or senior project manager role first and building toward the director level over time. Vermont employers such as the University of Vermont Medical Center and state agencies regularly hire project managers who advance internally. Earning a PMP credential early, volunteering to lead budgets and stakeholder communications in your current role, and targeting program management positions at Vermont's nonprofit and government sectors can accelerate that progression.
Where can I find and apply to project director jobs in Vermont?
You can find and apply to project director jobs in Vermont on Migrate Mate, which lists current Vermont openings updated regularly. Search for roles that match your industry background and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit. No profile creation is required to view or apply to listings.
