Project Engineer Jobs in Buffalo: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project engineer job in Buffalo?
Focus on Buffalo's strongest hiring sectors: civil and infrastructure construction, industrial manufacturing, and energy projects tied to the region's ongoing grid modernization. Firms working on Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority contracts, Buffalo Billion redevelopment initiatives, and advanced manufacturing at the South Buffalo industrial corridor hire consistently. A P.E. license or EIT status helps, but hands-on co-op experience with a local general contractor or utility company often carries more weight with Buffalo hiring managers.
Which companies hire project engineers in Buffalo?
Companies currently hiring project engineers in Buffalo include Moog, Barton & Loguidice, and Colliers Engineering & Design, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Buffalo's mix of legacy manufacturers, regional engineering consultancies, and public infrastructure contractors creates steady openings at both large firms and mid-size specialty shops.
Are there remote project engineer jobs in Buffalo?
Yes, though options are limited since most project engineer work involves site visits, vendor coordination, and hands-on oversight that require physical presence. About 26% of project engineer openings tied to Buffalo are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, skewing toward firms doing planning, design review, or program management rather than field construction. Document control, scheduling, and BIM coordination roles are the most likely to offer flexible arrangements locally.
How can I get a project engineer job in Buffalo with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Buffalo is targeting EIT or engineer-in-training roles at regional civil and construction firms, many of which recruit directly from the University at Buffalo and Buffalo State engineering programs. Local general contractors working on commercial and public works projects regularly hire junior project engineers for field support and submittal coordination. Volunteering for ASCE Buffalo chapter events and connecting with engineers at local infrastructure projects also opens doors that online applications often don't.
Which industries hire the most project engineers in Buffalo?
Most project engineer openings in Buffalo sit in Consulting & Professional Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Buffalo's heavy investment in infrastructure renewal, advanced manufacturing tied to semiconductor and EV supply chains, and ongoing commercial construction in the waterfront district keeps demand across those sectors consistently active.
