Project Manager Jobs in Richmond: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a project manager job in Richmond?
The strongest path into Richmond's project manager market runs through healthcare systems, federal and state government contractors, and financial services firms clustered downtown and in the West End. Candidates with PMP certification or Agile credentials stand out in Richmond's heavily regulated sectors. Networking through local PMI chapter events and targeting mid-size contractors that serve state agencies gives you a concrete edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire project managers in Richmond?
Companies currently hiring project managers in Richmond include Burns & McDonnell, Capital One, and Dewberry, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Richmond's mix of health systems, defense contractors, and regional banks means hiring is spread across both large institutions and mid-size firms with ongoing capital and technology projects.
Are there remote project manager jobs in Richmond?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role type. About 26% of project manager openings tied to Richmond are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with desk-based IT and program management roles offering the most flexibility. Construction, facilities, and government-site roles in Richmond typically require on-site presence.
How can I get a project manager job in Richmond with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point in Richmond is a coordinator or project analyst role with one of the city's health systems or government contractors, where structured project teams mentor junior staff directly. Earning a CAPM certification and targeting organizations like VCU Health or Richmond-area IT consulting firms signals readiness without a long project management resume. Moving laterally from operations, logistics, or clinical administration roles within the same Richmond employer is also a common stepping stone.
