Project Superintendent Jobs in Hawaii: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project superintendent in Hawaii?
Most project superintendents in Hawaii come up through field trades or construction management degree programs before moving into supervisory roles. Hawaii does not issue a state license specifically for project superintendents, but employers expect OSHA safety credentials and working knowledge of Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs contractor requirements. Candidates with a background in carpentry, concrete, or general contracting, combined with a construction management degree or associate credential, are well positioned for superintendent roles across Honolulu and neighbor island markets.
How much do project superintendents make in Hawaii?
Project superintendents in Hawaii earn a median of about $128,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $70,230 for the lowest 10% to over $191,980 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project superintendents in Hawaii?
Companies currently hiring project superintendents in Hawaii include FlatironDragados, Jobot, and Kiewit, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hawaii's active pipeline of military, resort, and public infrastructure projects means demand is consistent across both local firms and national contractors with permanent Hawaii operations.
Which Hawaii cities have the most project superintendent jobs?
Honolulu, Waipahu, and Lahaina account for the most project superintendent openings in Hawaii. Honolulu drives the majority of demand as the state's primary commercial and government construction hub, while Maui's ongoing resort and hospitality development supports a steady secondary market, and Hilo and Kona on the Big Island see activity tied to public works and residential growth.
Are there remote project superintendent jobs in Hawaii?
Yes, but they're rare. Project superintendent work is inherently on-site, requiring daily field presence to manage crews, inspect work, and enforce safety standards. About 6% of project superintendent openings tied to Hawaii are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those roles typically involve pre-construction planning, estimating review, or administrative oversight rather than active site management.
How can I get hired as a project superintendent in Hawaii with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is starting as an assistant superintendent or field engineer with a larger Hawaii contractor such as Nordic PCL Construction or Nan Inc., both of which bring on early-career candidates for structured site support roles. Completing a construction management program at the University of Hawaii at Manoa or Honolulu Community College strengthens a candidacy significantly. Moving laterally from a project coordinator, safety officer, or lead tradesperson position is common, and holding an active OSHA 30-Hour certification gives candidates a clear edge in initial screening.
Where can I find and apply to project superintendent jobs in Hawaii?
You can find and apply to project superintendent jobs in Hawaii on Migrate Mate, which lists current Hawaii openings across Honolulu, Maui, and the neighbor islands. Search the listings for roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the employers posting them.
