Entry Level Psychotherapist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level psychotherapist job?
Most entry level psychotherapist employers look for a relevant master's degree, completed supervised clinical hours, and any state licensure or licensure eligibility required by your target state. At this stage, internship placements, practicum experience, and letters of recommendation from clinical supervisors carry real weight. Tailoring your application to show the specific population or treatment modality you worked with during training gives you a clear edge over generalist applicants.
Which companies hire entry level psychotherapists?
Companies hiring entry level psychotherapists right now include Sun River Health, CentraCare, and OSF HealthCare, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including community mental health centers, outpatient clinics, hospital systems, school districts, and private group practices looking to bring on pre-licensed or newly licensed clinicians.
Are there remote entry level psychotherapist jobs?
Yes, though most entry level roles still favor in-person or hybrid settings where new clinicians can receive on-site supervision. About 11% of entry level psychotherapist openings are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with telehealth platforms and larger group practices most likely to offer flexible arrangements for candidates who meet state licensure requirements for their location.
Are these new grad psychotherapist jobs?
Yes, this page includes new grad, recent graduate, and junior psychotherapist roles alongside other entry level listings. A posting is typically new-grad friendly when it explicitly welcomes zero to two years of experience, counts supervised internship or practicum hours toward the requirement, or states that candidates working toward full licensure are encouraged to apply. Look for language like 'pre-licensed,' 'associate level,' or 'licensure supervision provided' as strong signals.
Which industries hire the most entry level psychotherapists?
Entry Level psychotherapist roles concentrate in Healthcare & Medical Services, Education, and Non-Profit & Social Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. These sectors drive the most entry level hiring because they operate under funding models that support pre-licensed clinicians, maintain large enough caseloads to justify new hires, and frequently offer supervision structures designed to help early-career psychotherapists work toward full independent licensure.
