Job Description
JOB SUMMARY
The Quality Engineer supports the O-Ring and Custom Molded Products business unit, with additional support for the converting business as needed. This role ensures compliance with customer requirements by reviewing tolerances, material selection, certifications, and inspection plans. Key responsibilities include overseeing the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), conducting audits and inspections, managing non-conforming products, and ensuring adherence to quality standards. Additionally, the Quality Engineer provides training and mentorship to operators on the proper use and maintenance of Inspection, Measuring & Test Equipment (IM&T), interpreting drawings, and understanding work instructions. This role also serves as a technical liaison between customers, suppliers, sales, and customer service teams for new product introduction and post-sales support.
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
- Proficiency in operating programmable measurement equipment (e.g., optical comparators).
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
- Understanding of AIAG PPAP elements, including PSW, control plans, CpK/PpK, MSA, and dimensional layouts.
- Strong data entry and computer skills.
- Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Experience in rubber/polymer molded product manufacturing is a plus.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quality or related fields (e.g., engineering, technology, logistics, customer service, production leadership).
- At least 1 year of experience with automotive PPAP preferred.
