DDN is at the center of one of the most consequential shifts in technology: the rapid buildout of AI infrastructure. As the business scales, our R&D organization has to evolve just as quickly—how we organize, where we invest, how we lead, and the talent and capabilities we build for what comes next.
We’re looking for a Global HR Business Partner — R&D to partner directly with our Chief Product Officer and his leadership team across the entire R&D organization.
This person will own the people and organizational agenda for R&D and serve as a critical member of the CPO’s leadership team. While the role is US-based, the organization is global. Success will require thinking globally and partnering closely with People leaders across regions to build a connected talent and organizational strategy.
This role is for a strategic operator who can see around corners, connect what’s happening in the business to what it means for the organization—and then build the plan and make it happen. The best person for this role can operate at 30,000 feet and at ground level. They can shape a three-year organizational strategy with an executive team, build the project plan to get there, and roll up their sleeves to execute it. No handoff required.
What You’ll Do
Own the people agenda for R&D globally. Partner with the CPO and leadership team on organization design, workforce planning, talent strategy, leadership capability and where and how we invest in the organization.
Operate as part of the R&D leadership team. Develop a deep understanding of the technology, strategy, talent and organization so you can bring a real point of view—not simply an HR perspective—to business decisions.
Own performance and employee relations end-to-end. Help leaders identify underperformance early, get clear on what good looks like, give direct feedback and navigate the path forward. When a manager needs more hands-on support, provide it. Own formal performance processes and complex employee relations matters through resolution, partnering with Legal and regional People teams where needed.
Shape the organization for what comes next. Help leaders make thoughtful decisions about structure, spans and layers, capabilities, roles and where we need to build, buy, develop or reorganize talent.
Build stronger leaders and teams. Coach executives and managers through growth, change, team effectiveness and difficult talent decisions. Help leaders raise the performance bar while building teams where talented people can do their best work.
Help build DDN’s People playbook. R&D won’t just consume People programs—this role will help create them. Partner across the People team to build and continuously improve global practices like performance management, onboarding, manager enablement, talent reviews and other foundational People programs. Bring what you learn from the business back into how DDN operates globally.
Turn strategy into execution. Take complex organizational problems, break them into workstreams, build the plan, connect the right people and drive through to completion. Great ideas that never make it out of the meeting aren’t particularly useful.
Connect a global R&D organization. Partner directly with regional People leaders across DDN’s footprint to create a cohesive global approach while accounting for legitimate local differences in employment practices, culture and market.
Bring the broader People organization to R&D. Partner with Talent Acquisition, Compensation, People Operations and regional teams to connect the dots across talent, rewards, systems and the employee experience.
What You Bring
You understand that people decisions are business decisions, and you want to be accountable for the strength of the organization alongside the leaders you support.
We’re looking for:
Significant experience as a senior HR Business Partner or People Partner, ideally supporting Engineering, Product, R&D or another complex technical organization.
A track record as a true thought partner to senior executives and a meaningful contributor to their leadership teams—shaping decisions rather than waiting to be asked.
Deep strength in organization design, talent strategy, performance management, employee relations and leadership effectiveness.
Experience personally owning performance and ER matters from early diagnosis through resolution. You don't need another team to step in and do the hard part.
Experience operating in high-growth, transformation or 0 1 / 1 2 environments where processes were still being built and roles didn't always have perfectly clean boundaries.
An operator’s brain. You naturally turn ambiguity into a plan, create structure around messy work, track the details and drive things across the finish line. Formal project management experience is welcome; an informal obsession with a good project plan works too.
The ability to connect dots. You can see how a talent issue connects to organization design, compensation, leadership, hiring or something happening elsewhere in the business.
Meaningful global experience. You know how to drive a global agenda through regional People teams without assuming the US answer is automatically the right one everywhere.
Strong business curiosity and enough fluency in technical organizations to understand what the business is trying to accomplish and why.
The ability to move from executive-level strategy to hands-on execution without ego.
A clear point of view, strong judgment and the confidence to respectfully challenge senior leaders when needed.
Compensation Range: $190K - $240K

R D Engineering Jobs in Santa Clara: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a r d engineering job in Santa Clara?
The most direct path is targeting Santa Clara's semiconductor, wireless technology, and consumer electronics companies, which concentrate along the Central Expressway corridor and around the Great America Parkway district. Candidates with hands-on hardware prototyping experience, familiarity with ASIC or FPGA design cycles, and a portfolio of shipped products stand out in this market. Networking through local IEEE Santa Clara Valley chapter events also gives candidates a measurable edge over cold applications.
Which companies hire r d engineerings in Santa Clara?
Companies currently hiring r d engineerings in Santa Clara include NVIDIA, Halo Industries, and Keysight Technologies, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Santa Clara's employer mix skews heavily toward established semiconductor and consumer electronics firms alongside a steady layer of early-stage hardware startups occupying office and lab space throughout the city's industrial corridors.
Are there remote r d engineering jobs in Santa Clara?
Yes, but with limitations, since r d engineering work often requires lab access, physical prototyping, and hands-on testing that cannot be done remotely. About 20% of r d engineering openings tied to Santa Clara are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with most flexibility found in design review, simulation, documentation, and cross-functional coordination responsibilities rather than core bench work.
How can I get a r d engineering job in Santa Clara with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Santa Clara is through test engineering or product validation roles at mid-size semiconductor and hardware companies, which regularly hire candidates with strong fundamentals and hands-on coursework. Santa Clara employers also recruit from co-op and internship pipelines at nearby universities, making an internship conversion one of the most reliable doors into a full-time r d engineering position locally. Demonstrating schematic reading, lab measurement skills, or experience with any standard EDA toolset strengthens an entry-level application significantly.
Which industries hire the most r d engineerings in Santa Clara?
The sectors hiring the most r d engineerings in Santa Clara are Technology & Software, Electronics & Hardware, and Distribution & Wholesale, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Santa Clara's position as the geographic heart of Silicon Valley means these sectors cluster here with unusual density, driving sustained demand for r d engineering talent across product generations and technology cycles.
