Project Controls Analyst Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a project controls analyst in California?
Most project controls analyst roles in California require a bachelor's degree in engineering, construction management, business, or a related field. California does not issue a state license specifically for project controls, so hiring decisions center on industry certifications such as the PMI-SP or AACE International's Planning and Scheduling Professional credential. Building proficiency in Primavera P6 and earning value management training through AACE or PMI chapters in California significantly strengthens a candidate's profile.
How much do project controls analysts make in California?
Project controls analysts in California earn a median of about $120,910 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $69,180 for the lowest 10% to over $188,560 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire project controls analysts in California?
Employers hiring project controls analysts in California right now include ENTRUST Solutions, Cushman & Wakefield, and PTAG, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of defense contractors, infrastructure agencies, and large engineering firms creates consistent demand for project controls professionals at multiple levels.
Which California cities have the most project controls analyst jobs?
Los Angeles, Oakland, and San Francisco lead California for project controls analyst openings. Los Angeles anchors the market through its aerospace and defense contractors and major public infrastructure programs, San Francisco draws demand from large technology and transit capital projects, and San Diego's concentration of Navy and defense-related work sustains steady hiring outside those two larger metros.
Are there remote project controls analyst jobs in California?
Yes, and more than many technical fields. About 28% of project controls analyst openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting the desk-based and data-intensive nature of much of the work. Cost engineering, schedule analysis, and reporting functions are the most commonly offered in remote or hybrid arrangements, while on-site field roles at active construction projects remain largely in-person.
How can I get hired as a project controls analyst in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a project coordinator or project engineer assistant role with a large California contractor such as Bechtel, Turner Construction, or AECOM, which regularly bring on early-career candidates into structured support roles. Community college construction management programs across California, particularly at schools partnered with local contractors, can supplement a four-year degree. Earning an AACE student membership and completing its online scheduling fundamentals course gives candidates a concrete credential that larger California employers recognize when reviewing entry-level applications.
