Training And Development Jobs in California: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a training and development in California?
Most training and development roles in California require at minimum a bachelor's degree in human resources, education, organizational psychology, or a related field. California does not issue a state license specific to training and development professionals, but employers widely expect credentials such as the Certified Professional in Talent Development from ATD or a SHRM certification. Gaining experience through HR coordinator roles, instructional design projects, or corporate onboarding programs is the most common California hiring path.
How much do training and developments make in California?
Training and developments in California earn a median of about $75,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $43,320 for the lowest 10% to over $134,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire training and developments in California?
Employers hiring training and developments in California right now include California State University, Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, and Pacific Gas and Electric, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. California's concentration of large technology firms, integrated healthcare systems, and major financial institutions means consistent demand for learning professionals who can build programs at scale across geographically distributed teams.
Which California cities have the most training and development jobs?
Oakland, San Francisco, and Los Angeles have the highest concentration of training and development openings in California. The Bay Area leads because of its density of technology headquarters and enterprise software companies with large, continually growing workforces, while Los Angeles draws volume from entertainment, healthcare, and retail corporate offices, and San Diego is driven by its biotech industry and large defense contractors requiring ongoing compliance and technical training programs.
Are there remote training and development jobs in California?
Yes, and more than most fields, because a significant share of instructional design, curriculum development, and virtual facilitation work can be done entirely online. About 16% of training and development openings tied to California are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how broadly California employers have adopted distributed workforce models. Roles focused on live, in-person facilitation or on-site onboarding for manufacturing and field operations tend to remain location-specific.
How can I get hired as a training and development in California with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an HR coordinator or training assistant role, which many large California employers use as a feeder into full training and development positions. Kaiser Permanente, the University of California system, and major California county governments run structured HR rotational or associate programs that welcome candidates without direct experience. Building a portfolio of sample e-learning modules or facilitation guides using tools like Articulate or Canva, and pairing that with a SHRM-CP or ATD certificate, gives entry-level candidates a measurable edge in California applications.
Where can I find and apply to training and development jobs in California?
You can find and apply to training and development jobs in California on Migrate Mate, which lists current California openings across industries and experience levels. Search the listings, find roles that fit your background and target location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
