- Associate or bachelor's degree in automotive technology or a related field

Tips for Your Remote Automotive Technology Instructor Job Search
Tailor your resume to certifications first
Automotive Technology Instructor postings weigh ASE certifications heavily, so list each credential with its designation code near the top of your resume. Hiring committees scan for specific certs before reading your teaching experience, so don't bury them in a general skills section.
Quantify your shop floor experience
Community college and vocational hiring panels want to see years of hands-on industry work alongside classroom time. Write the number of years you worked as a technician, the systems you serviced, and any OEM-specific training you completed, so reviewers can gauge real-world depth.
Target programs by equipment and curriculum
Programs built around specific OEM partnerships, EV curriculum, or NATEF accreditation attract different candidates than general shop programs. Filter openings by those program details so you apply to schools whose lab equipment and course structure match what you've actually taught or worked on.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists automotive technology instructor openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Prepare a hands-on demo for interviews
Many automotive technology instructor interviews include a demonstration lesson or a walk-through of how you'd run a lab session. Prepare a short, specific teaching scenario tied to a task like reading diagnostic trouble codes or performing a brake inspection, not a broad overview of a unit.
Negotiate release time for industry currency
When you reach the offer stage, ask whether the position includes paid professional development time or release time to maintain your industry certifications. Programs that fund continuing OEM or ASE training are a concrete benefit worth negotiating alongside salary and benefits.
