Remote – United States | Hands-On Architecture & Engineering Role
Initial 3-Month Architecture & Modernization Phase with Significant Follow-On Opportunity
U.S. Citizenship Required Due to Customer and Contract Requirements
Architect It. Build It. Lead It.
IntegraTouch is an established technology consulting firm with more than 24 years of experience supporting leading commercial enterprises and U.S. defense organizations with complex technology and engineering initiatives.
Our work spans Software Engineering, Cloud Architecture, AI and Private AI, RAG, Data Engineering, Infrastructure Modernization, and mission-critical systems.
We are seeking an exceptional Principal AWS Modernization Architect / Lead Software Engineer who combines enterprise-level architecture expertise with the ability and desire to remain deeply hands-on.
This is not an architecture-only position.
The person we hire will initially lead the technical assessment and modernization architecture for a large-scale AWS-based Device Management Framework supporting approximately 50,000+ globally deployed devices. As the initiative progresses from architecture into implementation, this individual will also serve as a Lead Software Engineer, helping build the solutions they architect and providing technical leadership to the broader engineering team.
We are looking for someone who can move comfortably from a whiteboard and architecture diagram into an IDE and AWS environment.
The Modernization Challenge
The existing platform includes AWS infrastructure, legacy C#/.NET desktop components, Python-based services and web applications, and systems responsible for device configuration and software updates.
The objective is not simply to maintain this environment. It is to determine how it should be modernized, rearchitected, and engineered for the future.
The next-generation platform must improve:
- Reliability, scalability, resiliency, and maintainability
- Management of a large globally distributed device population
- Device configuration and lifecycle management
- Software and firmware update capabilities
- Intelligent routing and communications
- Cloud-native architecture and application design
- Automation and repeatability
- Observability and operational visibility
- Integration with future devices and services
- The ability to incorporate AI-driven functionality where appropriate
The Principal Architect will help determine which components should be retained, refactored, replaced, or completely rearchitected.
Your Role: Architecture + Engineering
During the initial phase, you will operate as the Principal Modernization Architect, performing technical discovery, evaluating the existing environment, developing future-state architecture, building prototypes, and producing an actionable Technical Modernization Roadmap.
As the project transitions into implementation, you will increasingly operate as a Lead Software Engineer and technical authority, helping turn the architecture into production software.
You will be expected to:
- Perform a deep technical assessment of the existing AWS and application architecture.
- Understand existing source code, services, integrations, infrastructure, and deployment processes.
- Identify technical debt, architectural limitations, reliability issues, and modernization opportunities.
- Define the future-state cloud, software, and device-management architecture.
- Develop a phased Technical Modernization Roadmap.
- Personally design, prototype, code, and build critical components of the solution.
- Develop production-quality software using Python and modern software engineering practices.
- Design and develop APIs, services, integrations, and cloud-native application components.
- Help modernize legacy C#/.NET/WPF functionality into modern cloud and web architectures.
- Work with modern front-end technologies such as React and/or Angular.
- Architect and implement AWS services supporting large-scale device management.
- Evaluate AWS IoT and related technologies for device communication, configuration, telemetry, and software distribution.
- Design event-driven, distributed, and highly available systems where appropriate.
- Implement Infrastructure as Code using Terraform, AWS CDK, and/or CloudFormation.
- Improve CI/CD, automated testing, deployment, monitoring, and observability.
- Build prototypes and proofs of concept to validate architectural decisions.
- Participate in code reviews and establish engineering standards and patterns.
- Mentor and provide technical direction to other software and cloud engineers.
- Work directly with engineering leadership and stakeholders to move from strategy to working software.
What We're Looking For
This position requires someone who is equally credible as a Principal Architect and senior hands-on Software Engineer.
You should bring:
- 12+ years of progressive software engineering, cloud engineering, and architecture experience.
- Significant experience leading complex application and cloud modernization initiatives.
- Deep architecture and hands-on engineering expertise with AWS.
- A strong software engineering foundation with significant Python development experience.
- Experience designing and building distributed, scalable, highly available production systems.
- Experience modernizing legacy applications and architectures.
- Experience with modern front-end frameworks, preferably React and/or Angular.
- Working knowledge of C#/.NET and legacy desktop application architectures.
- Strong API, microservices, integration, and event-driven architecture experience.
- Infrastructure as Code experience with Terraform, AWS CDK, and/or CloudFormation.
- Strong CI/CD, DevOps, automated testing, monitoring, and observability experience.
- Experience creating architecture that can actually be implemented—not simply conceptual designs.
- The ability to personally prototype and engineer critical components when necessary.
- Experience leading and mentoring other senior engineers.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Highly Desired
Experience with several of the following would be especially valuable:
AWS IoT Core | IoT Architecture | Device Management | OTA Updates | Edge Computing | Python | React | Angular | C#/.NET | Terraform | AWS CDK | CloudFormation | Microservices | Event-Driven Architecture | Serverless | Containers | Kubernetes | Linux | Android | Cellular/LTE | Generative AI | LLMs | RAG | Mission-Critical Systems | Public Safety | Defense/Aerospace
The Person We're Looking For
Titles matter less to us than capability.
You may currently be a Principal Software Engineer, Principal Cloud Architect, Distinguished Engineer, Staff Engineer, Lead Software Architect, or Principal Solutions Architect.
What matters is that you have spent your career building complex systems, have progressed into architecture because of that engineering depth, and have never stopped being an engineer.
You should be comfortable:
Understanding the existing system → challenging it → designing something better → proving the design → writing the code → leading the team that builds it.
If your ideal architecture role ends when the diagrams are complete, this probably isn't the right opportunity.
If you want to own the technical direction and help build what you design, we should talk.
Why IntegraTouch?
This opportunity extends well beyond an initial three-month architecture engagement.
IntegraTouch continues to expand its work supporting sophisticated commercial and defense technology initiatives across AI, RAG, Software Engineering, Cloud, Infrastructure, and advanced systems modernization.
We are looking for a Principal-level technical leader who can become a long-term engineering partner as that portfolio continues to grow.
You'll have the opportunity to:
- Architect and build, rather than handing your designs to someone else.
- Own meaningful technical decisions.
- Work directly with engineering and technology leadership.
- Solve complex modernization challenges.
- Work on sophisticated commercial and defense technology.
- Mentor and lead talented engineers.
- Work remotely within the United States.
- Potentially move from one strategic initiative to the next as our project portfolio continues to expand.
We value long-term relationships. Our goal is not simply to fill a three-month contract; it is to identify an exceptional technical leader we can continue partnering with as new opportunities emerge.
Equal Employment Opportunity
IntegraTouch is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We consider qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, genetic information, or any other characteristic protected by applicable federal, state, or local law.
U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to applicable customer, contractual, and project requirements.
Pay: $80.00 - $100.00 per hour

Tips for Your Remote Aws Engineer Job Search
Show your async communication style upfront
Remote aws engineering teams depend on written clarity. Include documentation samples, architecture decision records, or runbook links in your portfolio. Employers want proof you can explain infrastructure decisions in writing without a meeting.
Highlight IaC ownership on your resume
Remote roles require engineers who can manage infrastructure independently. Call out specific Terraform modules, CloudFormation stacks, or CDK constructs you authored solo, including the scope of the environment and any automation you built around drift detection or compliance.
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote aws engineer openings from across the U.S. in one place. Search by role and apply directly to the openings that match your stack and seniority before they fill.
Prepare for remote technical interview formats
Remote aws engineer interviews often include live architecture walkthroughs over video, shared-screen troubleshooting sessions, and take-home infrastructure exercises. Practice explaining your AWS design decisions out loud and walking through past incidents on a whiteboard tool like Excalidraw.
Remote Aws Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote aws engineer job?
Remote aws engineer roles go to candidates who can demonstrate self-direction, clear async written communication, and the ability to ship infrastructure changes without in-person oversight. Employers screen for hands-on experience with core AWS services, infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or CloudFormation, and CI/CD pipelines. Certifications like AWS Solutions Architect strengthen your application, but a portfolio of real cloud projects you can walk through carries more weight than credentials alone.
Which companies hire remote aws engineers?
Employers currently hiring remote aws engineers include Protagona, Mutual of Omaha, and UST, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Remote-first technology companies, distributed fintech teams, and cloud-native SaaS businesses make up the majority of consistent remote aws engineer demand.
Can you get a remote aws engineer job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level aws engineer roles are harder to land because you'll be expected to troubleshoot and deliver independently from day one. Cloud-native startups and managed service providers occasionally hire junior engineers remotely. What opens the door is a public GitHub with real AWS projects, a personal portfolio environment you can demonstrate, and at least one AWS certification showing you've built foundational knowledge.
Do you need a degree for remote aws engineer jobs?
Not always. Remote employers focus on what you can build and operate in AWS rather than where you studied. A strong portfolio of deployed infrastructure, relevant certifications like AWS Solutions Architect or DevOps Engineer, and demonstrable experience with IaC and cloud security regularly outweigh a formal degree, especially at remote-first companies that evaluate candidates through technical screens.
Which industries hire the most remote aws engineers?
Most remote aws engineer openings sit in Technology & Software, Healthcare & Medical Services, and Retail, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. These sectors rely on distributed engineering teams that need cloud infrastructure managed entirely without on-site presence, making remote aws engineers a natural fit.
