Tips for Your Remote Paralegal Job Search
Tailor your resume to practice area
Hiring managers read paralegal resumes looking for specific practice-area experience. If you're targeting litigation roles, lead with your docket management and discovery experience. For corporate positions, front-load entity formation, contract review, and board minutes work instead.
Earn a NALA or NFPA certification
The Certified Paralegal credential from NALA and the Registered Paralegal credential from NFPA signal formal competency to employers who screen resumes before a human reads them. Either one can move your application past initial filters at mid-size and large firms.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists paralegal openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match your practice area and seniority level and apply directly to each listing.
Match your software skills to the listing
Legal-software fluency is a hard filter at many firms. Read each job posting carefully and call out any exact platforms you know, including case management systems, e-discovery tools, and document management software, rather than listing them generically under a skills section.
Prepare for a writing sample request
Most paralegal interviews include a writing sample or a short drafting exercise. Prepare a redacted motion, demand letter, or contract summary you can share quickly. Being ready without scrambling signals professionalism before the interview even starts.
Negotiate using billable-hour value, not title
When discussing compensation, frame your value around the billing rate your work supports and the caseload you can carry independently. Attorneys and office managers respond more concretely to workload capacity than to years of experience alone.
Remote Paralegal Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote paralegal job?
Target companies that already run distributed teams, since they hire remotely by default and know how to onboard someone they never meet in person. Remote paralegal employers screen hard for self-direction and clear written communication on top of the core skills, so show evidence you can own work without someone over your shoulder. Apply to the openings above that match your experience.
Which companies hire remote paralegals?
Companies hiring remote paralegals include Jobot, Husch Blackwell, and Farmers Insurance, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first firms and large companies running distributed teams post the most remote paralegal roles.
Can you get a remote paralegal job with no experience?
Yes, but it is harder than an on-site role, because remote work expects you to operate independently from the start. Entry-level remote paralegal openings do exist, especially at remote-first companies, and a portfolio of real work helps more than a long resume. Applying broadly to the roles that fit improves your odds.
Do you need a degree for remote paralegal jobs?
Not always. Many employers hire remote paralegals on demonstrated skills and prior work rather than a specific degree, though some larger companies still prefer one. Showing relevant results matters more than a credential for most remote paralegal roles.
Which industries hire the most remote paralegals?
Most remote paralegal openings sit in Law & Legal Services, Staffing & Recruiting, and Insurance, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors run distributed teams and hire paralegals remotely most consistently.
