THE OPPORTUNITY
Silvus is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior R&D Systems Engineer to join our Research & Development team. In this pivotal role, you will report to the Senior Director of R&D Electronic Warfare and lead the definition and development of next-generation Networked Electronic Warfare (EW) systems.
The successful individual in this role will bridge the gap between complex RF hardware, advanced signal processing software, and distributed networking architectures. You will work within a multi-disciplinary team to architect systems that not only detect and counter threats but coordinate these effects across a mesh of intelligent nodes. This position requires a rigorous systems engineering approach to capture designs, manage requirements, and ensure mission success in contested RF environments.
This position is eligible for 100% remote work depending on location.
The following is a list of at least some of the current essential job functions of the position. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities at any time at its discretion.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- System Architecture & Design : Lead the architectural definition of networked EW systems, decomposing high-level mission requirements into detailed hardware, software, and firmware specifications.

Tips for Your Remote R D Engineering Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote r d engineering openings from across the U.S. in one place, so you can find roles that match your background and apply directly without sorting through unrelated postings.
Show async communication skills upfront
Remote r d engineering employers prioritize written clarity. Include concise technical summaries, design documents, or research write-ups in your application materials to demonstrate you can move work forward without constant real-time meetings.
Build a portfolio of documented projects
Remote hiring managers can't see your work in person, so a GitHub repository, technical report, or documented prototype that shows your research process and conclusions gives them concrete evidence of your engineering ability.
Prepare for asynchronous interview stages
Many remote r d engineering interviews include take-home technical problems or recorded video responses. Practice explaining your design rationale in writing and rehearse concise video answers so you perform well outside a live call format.
Signal remote readiness in your application
Mention specific tools you use for distributed collaboration, such as version-controlled documentation platforms, simulation software with cloud access, or structured async standup workflows, so hiring teams can see you've already worked in a remote engineering environment.
Remote R D Engineering Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote r d engineering job?
Target companies with established distributed engineering teams, such as remote-first technology firms and defense contractors with geographically dispersed labs. Remote employers screen for self-directed problem-solving, strong written technical communication, and the ability to document research decisions clearly without in-person check-ins. Proficiency with async collaboration tools and a portfolio demonstrating independent project ownership gives candidates a clear edge.
Which companies hire remote r d engineerings?
Employers currently hiring remote r d engineerings include Rackner, YA, and ZS Associates, per current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Remote-first technology companies, distributed defense and aerospace teams, and advanced materials firms are among the most active sectors for fully remote r d engineering roles.
Can you get a remote r d engineering job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level r d engineering roles are harder to land because employers expect you to work independently from day one without in-person mentorship. Open-source project contributions, published research, or self-directed prototyping work can substitute for formal experience. Smaller remote-first startups and contract research organizations tend to be more open to early-career candidates who show strong documentation habits.
Do you need a degree for remote r d engineering jobs?
Not always. Many remote employers weigh demonstrated technical skills, a portfolio of completed projects, and measurable results alongside or instead of formal credentials. That said, roles involving regulated industries or government contracts often require a relevant engineering or science degree, so the answer depends on the specific sector and scope of the position.
Which industries hire the most remote r d engineerings?
Remote r d engineering roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Technology & Software, and Manufacturing, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Those sectors hire r d engineerings remotely because their research and development workflows are well-suited to distributed teams using shared documentation, simulation software, and async technical review processes.
