Social Media, Foster & Adoption Marketing Manager
We are looking for a creative, proactive, dog-loving Social Media Marketing Manager to help our rescue dogs get seen, find foster homes, and ultimately get adopted.
This role is about much more than simply posting on Instagram. We are looking for someone who understands how powerful social media and community networking can be in animal rescue and can take ownership of telling each dog's story, expanding our reach, building our foster network, and connecting dogs with the people who can help them.
What You’ll Do
- Create and manage engaging content across Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other relevant platforms
- Develop individual marketing strategies for adoptable dogs, particularly dogs who are urgent, harder to place, or have been waiting longer for homes
- Write compelling adoption and foster profiles that accurately communicate each dog's personality, needs, and ideal placement
- Create Reels, short-form videos, Stories, graphics, adoption spotlights, foster appeals, and rescue updates
- Regularly gather photos, videos, and updates from fosters and volunteers
- Actively network dogs through breed-specific groups, rescue communities, local Facebook groups, adoption websites, and other appropriate channels
- Ensure adoptable dogs are consistently listed, promoted, and updated across adoption platforms
Foster Recruitment & Networking
A major part of this position will be helping us grow and maintain a reliable foster network.
This includes:
- Creating compelling foster pleas for dogs needing temporary placement
- Actively networking urgent foster needs through social media, community groups, breed-specific communities, and existing rescue contacts
- Developing ongoing campaigns that encourage new people to become fosters—not just when there is an emergency
- Helping educate potential fosters about what fostering involves and addressing common concerns or misconceptions
- Sharing foster success stories to show people the impact they can make
- Re-engaging previous fosters and maintaining communication with our existing foster community
- Identifying creative ways to recruit fosters in the communities we serve
- Helping build a pipeline of potential fosters so that placement options exist before dogs become urgent
- Working with rescue leadership to identify the types of foster homes we need most and targeting outreach accordingly
The goal is not simply to post "FOSTER NEEDED" when we are in a crisis. We want someone who can help us build a community of people who want to foster and stay involved with the rescue.
Community Engagement
- Respond to and help manage social media inquiries related to adoption and fostering
- Build relationships with followers, adopters, fosters, volunteers, trainers, local businesses, and other rescue organizations
- Identify community partnerships that could increase visibility for our dogs
- Help recruit volunteers and supporters when needed
- Share adoption updates, rescue stories, educational content, behind-the-scenes content, and success stories
- Help grow the rescue's overall audience, foster network, volunteer base, and donor community
Who We’re Looking For
Our ideal candidate genuinely cares about animal rescue but also understands that successful rescue marketing requires creativity, consistency, urgency, networking, and follow-through.
You may be a great fit if you:
- Have experience managing social media for a business, nonprofit, rescue, shelter, or similar organization
- Are an excellent writer and storyteller
- Know how to create engaging Reels and short-form video content
- Understand Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok trends and best practices
- Are comfortable using Canva and basic photo/video editing tools
- Are comfortable reaching out to people, groups, organizations, and potential community partners rather than waiting for them to come to us
- Are organized enough to keep track of multiple dogs, foster needs, adoption needs, and ongoing campaigns
- Are proactive—you notice when a dog isn't getting enough attention or when our foster capacity is getting low and take action
- Can balance emotional storytelling with honest, responsible representation of each dog
- Understand that finding the right foster or adopter is more important than simply generating a large number of applications
- Have experience with animal rescue, shelters, dog training, veterinary medicine, marketing, or pet-related businesses (strongly preferred)
What Success Looks Like
We don't want to measure this position simply by followers, likes, or views.
Success means:
More qualified adoption applications.
More foster applications.
A larger and more dependable foster network.
More people seeing and sharing our dogs.
Fewer last-minute foster emergencies.
Long-stay dogs receiving renewed attention.
Dogs being matched with appropriate homes.
And ultimately, being able to help more dogs because we have the community and foster capacity to support them.
To Apply
Please send us a brief introduction, your relevant experience, and examples of social media accounts, posts, Reels, campaigns, or other content you've created.
If you have previous experience with animal rescue, foster recruitment, community organizing, nonprofit marketing, or networking adoptable animals, we'd especially love to hear from you.

Tips for Your Remote Social Media Marketing Specialist Job Search
Apply early to remote roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists remote social media marketing specialist openings from across the U.S. in one place. Search roles by sector or team type, find the ones that match your experience, and apply directly without sorting through mixed remote and on-site listings.
Build a portfolio that proves remote readiness
Remote employers want to see real output, not job titles. Compile content samples, engagement reports, and campaign screenshots that show what you managed, what you measured, and what improved. Async-friendly formats like shared Google Drive folders or a clean personal site work well.
Show platform depth in your application materials
Remote hiring managers screen for hands-on fluency with tools like Hootsuite, Sprout Social, Later, and native analytics dashboards. Name the platforms you've used, the metrics you tracked, and the content formats you managed. Generic marketing language won't stand out in a remote applicant pool.
Prepare for async-first remote interviews
Many remote social media marketing teams use asynchronous screening, including recorded video prompts or written briefs before a live call. Practice explaining your content decisions and campaign results in writing, because remote teams evaluate written communication as a core job skill from the first touchpoint.
Remote Social Media Marketing Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a remote social media marketing specialist job?
Target remote-first companies and distributed marketing teams, which consistently hire social media marketing specialists to manage brand presence without requiring an office. Remote employers screen heavily for self-direction, strong async written communication, and platform-specific skills like content scheduling, community management, and performance reporting. A portfolio showing real engagement results and a clear understanding of social analytics gives you a concrete edge over candidates with credentials alone.
Which companies hire remote social media marketing specialists?
Companies hiring remote social media marketing specialists right now include American Heart Association, AOC, and Inzata, based on current remote listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Remote-first SaaS companies, distributed e-commerce brands, and digital-native media organizations are among the most consistent sources of remote openings for this role.
Can you get a remote social media marketing specialist job with no experience?
Yes, but remote entry-level roles are harder to land because employers expect you to manage deadlines and brand accounts independently from day one. Remote-first startups and small e-commerce brands are more open to early-career candidates. A portfolio of organic content, a managed personal or freelance brand account, and demonstrated familiarity with scheduling and analytics tools can substitute effectively for formal work history.
Do you need a degree for remote social media marketing specialist jobs?
Not always. Remote employers prioritize demonstrated platform fluency, content results, and analytics literacy over a specific degree. Candidates who can show measurable growth in followers, engagement rates, or campaign performance often move forward ahead of degree holders who lack hands-on evidence. A marketing-related degree can help with initial screening, but it rarely outweighs a strong, results-focused portfolio in remote hiring decisions.
