INTRODUCTION
Conning is a leading global investment management firm with a long history of serving the insurance industry. We develop solutions by leveraging Conning’s risk management tools and utilizing a highly disciplined investment process that relies on fundamental analysis.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Work closely with other research team members to analyze industry trends (financial, economic, societal, technological) and evaluate their impact on insurance markets. Responsible for preparing publications and presentations for final delivery, including editing, formatting, graphics and data support. The analyst will conduct research, serve as primary and/or a secondary author on written reports and other deliverables. The role will also support other team projects including consulting.
Responsibilities
- Research to help drive the team’s publications and industry knowledge.
- Contribute to publications including industry forecast and market overviews, shorter articles relating to research topics and in-depth strategic studies on industry segments or strategic issues.
- Participate in team projects including consulting opportunities.
- Participate in the development of analytical tools and information resources to support insurance research.
- Prepare publications and presentations for final delivery—including editing, formatting and creating graphics.
- Represent Conning at client and prospect meetings and industry functions with potential speaking opportunities.
- Participate in team-based review of all finished products to ensure that they exhibit professional quality and are completed as scheduled.
- Develop contacts and identify opportunities for Conning to increase its exposure and sales in the insurance sector.
- Guide support staff associates in the performance of their assignments.
- Work product is subject to review by team members.
Ancillary Responsibilities
- Support and work with other areas within Conning including Asset Management, Business Development and Investment and Risk Solutions in client interaction and new prospect proposals as requested.
- May supervise others within Insurance Research.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Passion for insurance and related topics.
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Actuarial Science, Economics, Accounting, Finance or other related fields.
- 2-8 years of experience in related field including insurance company operations, actuarial, consulting, strategic planning/business development, banking, or equity/credit research.
- Knowledge of insurance products and technology, distribution, customer service, and economic drivers shaping the business.
- Knowledge in areas including: insurance marketing and distribution approaches, information technologies and analytical techniques, capital markets and valuation analysis, strategic planning, market research, and competitive analysis.
- Writing and analytical skills - ability to synthesize, develop and articulate critical conclusions from broad research and source information including insurance financial information.
- Understanding of insurance company statutory and GAAP financial statements and reporting principles, and an understanding of actuarial topics.
- Knowledge of spreadsheet applications to analyze industry and company specific data.
- Dedication to continuing education, such as earning industry certifications.
- 0-10% travel domestically.
