Research Assistant Jobs in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a research assistant job in Seattle?
Focus your search on Seattle's three dominant hiring clusters: the University of Washington and affiliated research centers in the University District, the biotech and life sciences corridor in South Lake Union, and major hospital systems like UW Medicine and Seattle Children's. Candidates with hands-on lab experience, familiarity with IRB protocols, or a background in data collection and literature review stand out most in this market.
Which companies hire research assistants in Seattle?
Companies currently hiring research assistants in Seattle include University Of Washington, Headlands Research, and Providence Swedish, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Seattle's research assistant market draws heavily from academic medical centers, independent research institutes, and early-stage biotech companies with active clinical or laboratory programs.
Are there remote research assistant jobs in Seattle?
Yes, but remote availability depends heavily on the type of work: desk-based and analytical roles such as literature review, data coding, and qualitative analysis are frequently remote, while laboratory, clinical, and on-site fieldwork roles are not. About 50% of research assistant openings tied to Seattle are remote or hybrid as of November 2026. Survey coordination, systematic review, and health policy research roles at Seattle-area institutions are among the most likely to offer hybrid arrangements.
How can I get a research assistant job in Seattle with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Seattle is through the University of Washington's undergraduate and post-baccalaureate research programs, which regularly place early-career candidates in paid assistant roles across dozens of departments. Seattle Children's Research Institute and Fred Hutch also post entry-level coordinator and data assistant positions that do not require prior research employment. Volunteering in a lab, completing a relevant capstone project, or holding a research methods course certification gives candidates a concrete edge when applying.
