Research Dietitian Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a research dietitian in Washington?
You must hold an active Washington State dietitian license, issued by the Washington State Department of Health, which requires completing an accredited dietetic internship and passing the Commission on Dietetic Registration examination to earn the Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential. Research-focused positions in Washington typically also expect a master's or doctoral degree in nutrition or a related science, and hands-on research experience gained through graduate assistantships or postdoctoral appointments at institutions like the University of Washington or Washington State University.
Which companies hire research dietitians in Washington?
Washington research dietitian roles are posted by Microsoft, Amazon, and Google and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Washington's concentration of academic medical centers, federally funded research institutes, and integrated health systems gives the state a particularly deep bench of employers conducting ongoing nutrition research.
Which Washington cities have the most research dietitian jobs?
Seattle, Redmond, and Tacoma have the most research dietitian openings in Washington right now. Seattle dominates because of its dense cluster of academic medical centers, cancer research institutes, and biotech employers, while Spokane's openings are largely driven by Providence Health and Washington State University's health sciences programs, and Bellevue's demand reflects the expansion of outpatient and corporate wellness research tied to its large technology employer base.
Are there remote research dietitian jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields because many research dietitian roles involve direct participant contact, lab work, or clinical data collection that requires on-site presence. About 23% of research dietitian openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those tend to cover the data analysis, grant writing, and protocol development portions of the role rather than hands-on participant work.
How can I get hired as a research dietitian in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to graduate research assistantships or dietetic internships at the University of Washington or Washington State University, both of which place candidates directly into funded research projects. Large Washington health systems including UW Medicine and Providence Health run new-graduate clinical rotations where nutrition research is embedded, and lateral moves from clinical dietitian or nutrition educator roles are common. Earning your Washington State dietitian license early and building a portfolio of even small research contributions strengthens any application significantly.
Where can I find and apply to research dietitian jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to research dietitian jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current Washington openings from employers across the state. Search the listings, find roles that match your background and credentials, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
