DESCRIPTION
As a Robotics Field Engineer at Amazon RIVR, you will be the critical link between our advanced robotics technology and real-world deployment. You will serve as Tier 2 technical support, acting as the primary interface for other Amazon teams when complex issues arise in the field. This role is designed for a technical problem-solver who excels at Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and enjoys the challenge of debugging hardware and software in live environments. Beyond troubleshooting, you will play a strategic role in our development cycle by providing real-world operational insights to our QA teams, ensuring our test cases reflect the unpredictable nature of the field.
Key job responsibilities
Serve as the Tier 2 technical escalation point for field operations, interfacing directly with Amazon last-mile teams to resolve complex system issues.
Perform deep-dive Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on field failures to identify whether issues stem from hardware, software, or environmental factors.
Execute debugging and perform quick technical fixes to maintain a target ratio of 1 engineer to 5 robots.
Collaborate with QA Engineers to provide real-world input for the design of full-system test cases, ensuring field edge cases are captured.
Lead the operational readiness and optimization of RIVR's deployed robots, ensuring seamless integration across diverse sites.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, troubleshooting guides, and Service & Support SOPs for Field Technicians.
Act as the technical bridge to Product and Engineering teams, translating field-identified issues and RCA insights into structured requirements for the product roadmap.
About the team
Amazon RIVR is a robotics company pioneering Physical AI through real-world doorstep delivery. Founded in 2024 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, RIVR developed wheeled-legged robots designed to operate in complex, unstructured environments such as stairs, gates, doors, and uneven urban terrain. We believe that achieving general physical intelligence requires solving real customer problems in the real world, where robots can learn from rich operational data at scale.
Following our acquisition by Amazon in March 2026, we are continuing this mission with greater reach and speed. By combining custom robot hardware, onboard autonomy, and cloud-based coordination, Amazon RIVR is building the next generation of safe, reliable autonomous robots for last-mile delivery

Robotics Engineer Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a robotics engineer job in Austin?
Focus your search on Austin's three dominant hiring sectors: defense and aerospace contractors in North Austin, autonomous vehicle and mobility startups around East Riverside and Mueller, and advanced manufacturing operations in the greater Round Rock and Cedar Park corridors. Candidates with hands-on ROS experience, embedded systems skills, or familiarity with computer vision pipelines tend to move faster through Austin hiring pipelines. Networking through local IEEE chapters and Austin robotics meetups also opens doors that online applications miss.
Which companies hire robotics engineers in Austin?
Companies currently hiring robotics engineers in Austin include Amazon, Symbotic, and The University of Texas at Austin, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Austin's hiring mix skews toward growth-stage tech startups, defense primes with local offices, and semiconductor firms expanding their automation footprints in the region.
Are there remote robotics engineer jobs in Austin?
Yes, but robotics engineering is largely hands-on work, so fully remote roles are far less common here than in pure software disciplines. About 10% of robotics engineer openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with most of those positions covering simulation, software architecture, or controls modeling rather than lab or floor-level work. Austin's autonomous vehicle and AI robotics startups tend to offer the most flexibility for engineers in those analytical sub-specialties.
How can I get a robotics engineer job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Austin is targeting automation and test engineering roles at the region's semiconductor and advanced manufacturing firms, which routinely hire associate-level engineers with strong coursework and project portfolios. UT Austin's robotics and mechanical engineering programs have direct recruiting pipelines with local employers, and co-op or internship stints at Austin-area defense contractors or EV companies convert to full-time offers more often than cold applications. Building a GitHub portfolio around ROS or simulation projects gets early-career candidates past the first screening round with Austin's more technical hiring managers.
Which industries hire the most robotics engineers in Austin?
The sectors hiring the most robotics engineers in Austin are Retail, Technology & Software, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Austin's sustained growth in semiconductor fabrication, electric vehicle development, and defense technology contracts has made the city one of the more active regional markets for robotics talent outside of traditional coastal hubs.
