Job Description:
The major function of this position is to ensure consistent administration of a plant safety program oriented toward health and safety, quality and production that complies with KOSHA and all other local, state, federal, and Century safety regulations and standards, as well as plant goals and objectives.
Qualifications/Skills /Knowledge & Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Safety, EHS or related field and/or 5 years related experience.
- Knowledge of ERT services, OSHA certifications, and environmental and fire safety.
- Requires considerable knowledge of Company policies/ procedures/ SWP’s and sections of the Collective Bargaining Agreement that pertain to the Department and related to employee safety.
- Must have a working knowledge of legislation and standards that concern health and safety of the workforce.
- Preference will be given to candidates with experience with ISO standards and compliance (9001, 140001, 450001), maintaining Quality Management Systems (QMS), and establishing internal audit system and tracking of results.
The incumbent must have the ability to build and sustain good working relationships and work effectively in a team environment; be achievement motivated and have a high energy level; effective planning and organizational skills; and effective communication skills (verbal, written, and listening).
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Learn, accept and live Century Aluminum’s Safety Mission Statement
- Serving as an authority on interpretation and compliance of new and existing state and federal regulations.
- Plantwide identification of unsafe acts and conditions through the audit process and recommending realistic corrective actions
- Maintain the OSHA log, interaction log, and the plant accident/incident database
- Develop, train, and guide personnel in safety and health awareness and the administration of safety policies, standards, initiatives, and procedures to ensure safe, economical, and efficient operations throughout the plant; and promote programs
- Provide guidance, advice, and statistical data to management relating to safety and health.
- Recommend effective safety programs for the protection of employees, contractors, vendors, and visitors by developing realistic standards and procedures and following up for compliance
