Senior Level Sales Director Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a senior level sales director job?
Employers at this level look for candidates who have owned a revenue number, led a sales team through growth or change, and can speak to repeatable systems they built or improved. A history of cross-functional influence, strong pipeline discipline, and the ability to develop talent underneath you carries more weight than tenure alone. Tailoring your application to show scale and ownership is what separates strong candidates here.
Which companies hire senior level sales directors?
Companies hiring senior level sales directors right now include Stella-Jones, Five9, and StoneX Group, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Hiring at this level tends to come from growth-stage companies adding commercial leadership, established enterprises backfilling or expanding senior roles, and organizations entering new markets who need experienced directors to lead the charge.
Are there remote senior level sales director jobs?
Yes, though availability varies by industry and company stage. About 43% of senior level sales director openings are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how many organizations now allow senior commercial leaders to operate without a fixed office location. On-site roles still exist, particularly at companies where the director is expected to be present with a regional team or executive leadership.
What makes a sales director role senior level?
Senior level sales director roles carry broader scope and deeper accountability than mid-level ones. You are expected to own a revenue target, set commercial strategy rather than just execute it, and develop the managers or individual contributors reporting to you. These roles involve cross-functional decision-making, stakeholder influence at the executive level, and responsibility for building the systems and culture that drive long-term sales performance.
Which industries hire the most senior level sales directors?
Senior Level sales director roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Consulting & Professional Services, and Manufacturing, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. These sectors tend to drive hiring at this level because they operate complex, high-value sales cycles that require experienced leadership to build teams, manage enterprise relationships, and hit ambitious revenue goals.
