Tips for Your Scale Clerk Job Search
Tailor your resume to weighing operations
List the specific scale types you've operated, such as platform, truck, or floor scales, and any weighing software you've used. Employers want to see you can read, record, and verify weight tickets accurately without prompting.
Highlight your DOT and compliance experience
Many scale clerk postings in trucking and agriculture require familiarity with weight limits under Department of Transportation regulations. Call that out explicitly on your resume so hiring managers don't have to guess whether you know the rules.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists scale clerk openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter openings by industry before applying
Scale clerk duties differ meaningfully between a grain elevator and a recycling facility. Read each posting carefully for the commodity handled and the recordkeeping system used, then apply only where your background matches both.
Prepare to demonstrate data entry accuracy
Interviews often include a short data entry or ticket reconciliation exercise. Practice logging weight transactions quickly and spotting discrepancies in sample records before your interview so the task feels routine.
Ask about shift structure during the offer stage
Scale clerk positions in agriculture and recycling frequently involve early mornings, weekends, or rotating shifts tied to harvest or collection schedules. Clarify the shift calendar before you accept so there are no surprises after day one.
Scale Clerk Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most scale clerks?
The companies hiring the most scale clerks right now include Cleveland-Cliffs, Intermountain Farmers Association, and Intermountain Farmers Association (IFA), with the largest share of openings in Utah, Wisconsin, and Michigan, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Agricultural cooperatives, waste haulers, and food processing plants consistently account for the bulk of postings.
How many scale clerk jobs are remote?
About 0% of scale clerk openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, because most duties require physical operation of on-site scales. Administrative scale functions, such as ticket reconciliation and reporting, are the sub-areas most likely to carry a partial remote option.
How do you become a scale clerk?
Start by earning a high school diploma or GED, then look for entry-level positions at grain elevators, recycling centers, or trucking terminals that offer on-the-job training on commercial scales. Build familiarity with weight ticket software and DOT load regulations while in those roles. Some employers also require a passing score on a basic math and data entry assessment before hire.
Can you get a scale clerk job with little or no experience?
Yes, many scale clerk employers hire candidates with no direct scale experience as long as you can show strong attention to detail and accurate data entry skills. Warehouse, cashier, or inventory roles that involved logging quantities and reconciling records transfer well. Applying to recycling facilities and aggregate yards is often the fastest path in, since those operations train new hires on their specific equipment.
What does the scale clerk interview process look like?
Most scale clerk interviews run one to two rounds. The first is typically a phone or in-person conversation covering your recordkeeping background and availability for early shifts. A second round, if held, often includes a short hands-on or written exercise where you log sample weight tickets and check totals for accuracy. Interviewers also commonly ask how you handle discrepancies between driver-reported and scale-recorded weights.
Where can I find and apply to scale clerk jobs?
You can find and apply to scale clerk jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States in one place. Find roles that match your background and apply directly to each listing without leaving the platform.
