Security Operations Center Analyst Jobs in Rhode Island: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security operations center analyst in Rhode Island?
Rhode Island does not require a state-issued license to work as a security operations center analyst. The standard path is a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, or computer science, combined with certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CySA+, or CEH. Many Rhode Island employers, particularly those supporting defense and financial services, also value candidates who can pass a federal background investigation. Starting in a help desk or IT support role at a Providence-area employer is a common entry point.
How much do security operations center analysts make in Rhode Island?
Security operations center analysts in Rhode Island earn a median of about $109,420 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $74,880 for the lowest 10% to over $170,180 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire security operations center analysts in Rhode Island?
Employers hiring security operations center analysts in Rhode Island right now include FM, Citizens, and CVS Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Rhode Island's mix of defense contractors, insurers, and academic medical centers means openings appear across several distinct industry verticals throughout the year.
Which Rhode Island cities have the most security operations center analyst jobs?
The cities with the most security operations center analyst openings in Rhode Island are Johnston, Middletown, and Providence. Providence anchors the market as the state's commercial and institutional center, home to large financial services firms and hospital networks, while Warwick and smaller suburban communities benefit from proximity to defense and government contractors based near T.F. Green Airport and the state's federal facilities.
Are there remote security operations center analyst jobs in Rhode Island?
Yes, and more than many technical roles, since much SOC work is desk-based and tool-driven. About 44% of security operations center analyst openings tied to Rhode Island are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting the analytical and software-dependent nature of the work. Tier-one alert monitoring and threat intelligence functions are the most commonly offered in remote or hybrid arrangements, while incident response and on-site system administration typically require physical presence.
How can I get hired as a security operations center analyst in Rhode Island with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is through an IT support or help desk role at a Rhode Island hospital system, insurer, or defense contractor, then transitioning inward once you have exposure to network fundamentals and ticketing systems. Institutions like Lifespan and Care New England occasionally post junior security analyst or IT operations roles suited to candidates without dedicated SOC experience. Earning CompTIA Security+ before applying and completing a hands-on home lab or a SANS cybersecurity course strengthens an entry-level application considerably.
