Security Program Manager Jobs in Iowa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security program manager in Iowa?
The most direct path is a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity, information technology, or a related field combined with several years of hands-on security experience. Iowa does not require a state-issued license for this role, but employers consistently expect professional certifications such as CISSP or CISM. Building experience through security analyst or IT risk roles at Iowa's major financial services firms, healthcare systems, or state agencies is the most reliable route into program-level positions.
Which companies hire security program managers in Iowa?
Iowa security program manager roles are posted by Metro One LPSG, MidAmerican Energy, and Bitco Insurance Companies and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Iowa's concentration of insurance headquarters, regional banks, and large hospital systems means hiring activity tends to be anchored in Des Moines and Cedar Rapids year-round.
Which Iowa cities have the most security program manager jobs?
Des Moines, Cedar Rapids, and Clinton lead Iowa for security program manager openings. Des Moines dominates because it is home to major insurance carriers and financial institutions that maintain large in-house security programs, while Cedar Rapids and Iowa City draw on manufacturing headquarters, regional healthcare systems, and university research operations that require dedicated security program oversight.
Are there remote security program manager jobs in Iowa?
Yes, and more than many comparable roles, since much of the work involves policy development, vendor oversight, and program governance that can be done off-site. About 38% of security program manager openings tied to Iowa are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting broader flexibility in the field. Compliance-heavy and analytical functions tend to be the most remote-friendly, while roles requiring physical security oversight or on-site audits typically remain in-person.
How can I get hired as a security program manager in Iowa with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a security analyst or IT risk analyst role first, then building toward program management. Large Iowa employers such as Principal Financial Group, MercyOne, and state government agencies regularly hire junior security professionals and provide structured growth tracks. Earning an entry-level certification like CompTIA Security+ while working in IT support or audit at an Iowa financial institution or healthcare organization gives candidates a concrete edge when applying for associate-level security roles that feed into program manager positions.
Where can I find and apply to security program manager jobs in Iowa?
You can find and apply to security program manager jobs in Iowa on Migrate Mate, which lists current Iowa openings updated regularly. Find roles that fit your experience and apply directly to each employer through the listing.
