Security Program Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a security program manager in Texas?
Most security program managers in Texas start with a bachelor's degree in information security, computer science, or a related field, then build several years of experience in security operations or IT risk roles before moving into program leadership. Texas does not require a state-issued license for this role, but industry credentials such as CISSP, CISM, or PMP carry significant weight with Texas employers, particularly in the defense, energy, and financial sectors that dominate hiring here.
Which companies hire security program managers in Texas?
Employers hiring security program managers in Texas right now include Apple, Arm, and Fidelity Investments, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of defense contractors near San Antonio, energy companies headquartered in Houston, and financial services firms in Dallas-Fort Worth means demand is spread across several distinct industry clusters.
Which Texas cities have the most security program manager jobs?
Austin, Roanoke, and San Antonio have the most security program manager openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth and Houston generate the highest volume through their dense financial services, energy, and corporate headquarters ecosystems, while San Antonio's role as a national hub for military and defense contracting makes it a consistent source of openings for security program leaders with government or cleared experience.
Are there remote security program manager jobs in Texas?
Yes, and they are more common than in many other security roles. About 25% of security program manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting that much of the work involves governance, documentation, stakeholder communication, and program oversight rather than hands-on physical security duties. Strategic planning, compliance reporting, and vendor management tasks are the parts of the role most frequently performed remotely.
How can I get hired as a security program manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a security analyst or IT risk analyst role first, then building toward program management responsibilities. Large Texas defense contractors such as Lockheed Martin and Raytheon, as well as major financial institutions headquartered in Dallas, often recruit analysts into rotational or associate programs that expose them to program-level work. Earning a CompTIA Security Plus or starting a PMP certification while in an analyst seat is the credential combination that most consistently helps candidates in Texas make that transition.
Where can I find and apply to security program manager jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to security program manager jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across industries including defense, energy, financial services, and technology. Search the available roles, find ones that fit your experience and target location, and apply directly to the ones that match.
