Our Freight Services Division provides locomotive maintenance services to our customers, the country’s largest freight railroads, helping them keep their locomotives running at optimal levels. The mission of the Fleet Innovation & Transformation team is to accelerate fleet transformation by consistently providing compelling solutions and innovative technologies that improve reliability, sustainability, and performance.
How will you make a difference?
The Lead Systems Engineer, MCA – Will partner with a team of engineers focused on delivering software solutions for Wabtec’s growing fleet of MCA based control system locomotives. In this role, you will lead the technical requirements definition, verification, validation and implementation phases of MCA software release(s) to ensure customer satisfaction.
You will initiate software releases starting with System level requirements definition & flow-down through the sub-system level, followed by internal sub-system & system level validation. Provide primary support for installation on our customer locomotives in the field and in the factory. This includes ensuring system and sub-system level validation planning and tests are appropriate for the defined requirements and scope. Your leadership will help ensure that the software will deliver a product that exceeds customer expectations, is installed with as little disruption to the customer as possible, and with minimal support needed from Wabtec.
What will your typical day look like?
- Define MCA Software revision/release scope with appropriate requirements definition, documentation updates, design review planning, verification and validation plans.
- Provide end-to-end oversight of MCA software release process ensuring system level requirements are met through appropriate validation testing.
- Identify risks and develop mitigation activities to reduce risks to acceptable levels prior to software release.
- Communicate program & project progress to all levels of the organization.

Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelors Degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience.
- Detailed knowledge of MCA control system(s) including software development & release processes
- 5+ years Locomotive Systems Engineering Experience which includes time spent on New Product Development, Requisition, and Installed Base product support.
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve product problems in a ‘high-pressure’ environment
- Ability to estimate engineering effort for defined tasks
- High level of integrity
- Demonstrated ability to lead and motivate technical people with a high level of urgency
- Proven ability to strengthen teams, increase effectiveness, and broaden responsibilities
- Project/Program Management experience
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive projects to completion by setting and meeting key milestones
- Strong Verbal & Written communication skills
Desired Characteristics:
- Masters Degree in Systems Engineering, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science.
- Working knowledge of INCOSE systems engineering best practices and Model‑Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
- Demonstrated experience in motivating employees and creating an atmosphere of acceptance and teamwork

The salary rate for this role is currently $91100-129800 The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location.
