ROLE SUMMARY
Senior Manager, Cloud & Infrastructure Platforms is responsible for the strategy, delivery, and operations of the organization’s cloud and core infrastructure platforms. This role has clear ownership of Azure platform foundations and Microsoft enterprise platforms, with governance and oversight across other cloud environments.
You will lead platform reliability, modernization, security guardrails, cost optimization, and Microsoft, AWS and other cloud ecosystem partnerships, while enabling application, data, and collaboration platforms to operate securely and at scale through well-governed platforms and repeatable patterns.
Responsibilities
Platform Strategy & Ownership (Cloud, Core Infrastructure & Microsoft Platforms)
- Define and own the cloud and infrastructure platform strategy aligned with business and technology objectives.
- Define and maintain a multi-cloud platform strategy and decision framework across Azure, AWS, and relevant hybrid/third-party platforms, including guidance for workload placement, architecture patterns, security guardrails, operational supportability, and cost trade-offs.
- Own Azure platform foundations end-to-end, including standards, configuration baselines, and platform roadmap.
- Own Microsoft tenant/platform engineering and governance, including Microsoft 365 platform services (e.g., SharePoint Online service health and governance) and Entra ID (identity platform), ensuring secure, scalable, and well-governed operation.
- Provide oversight and governance across other cloud environments (e.g., AWS) to ensure consistency and reuse where appropriate.
- Own and manage strategic vendor and partner relationships, including TierPoint, Rackspace and Azure partners, through defined outcomes and SLAs; ensure internal strategy drives partner execution (vs. partner-defined roadmaps).
- Provide direct Azure and AWS platform leadership, not only partner/vendor oversight, including Azure and AWS account structure, identity/IAM patterns, network connectivity, security baseline, observability, backup/DR posture, and platform roadmap.
Reliability & Operational Excellence
- Own service health, availability, and operational performance across cloud, infrastructure, and Microsoft platforms.
- Establish and enforce strong incident, problem, and change management discipline.
- Act as Tier-3 escalation owner for complex platform incidents, including identity and collaboration service outages.
- Ensure high-quality documentation, runbooks, and operational procedures are created, maintained, and used.
- Define, measure, and continuously improve SLAs, SLOs, and operational metrics.
Microsoft 365, Identity & Collaboration Platforms
- Provide platform-level ownership and governance for Microsoft 365 services, including SharePoint Online and related collaboration workloads.
- Own identity platform strategy and operations using Entra ID, including authentication, authorization, conditional access, and lifecycle management.
- Partner with Security and Workplace/End-User teams to ensure secure configuration, policy enforcement, and consistent user experience.
- Establish standards and guardrails for M365 integrations with cloud-native and SaaS applications.
- Own and provide interoperability support for Microsoft resources and services to AI Studio and Data Engineering.
Modernization & Continuous Improvement
- Own and publish a visible, quarterly platform roadmap aligned to business priorities.
- Drive infrastructure and platform modernization, including cloud-native adoption and legacy platform rationalization.
- Lead automation, standardization, and self-service initiatives using Infrastructure as Code and platform tooling.
- Drive technology debt reduction, including deprecations, consolidation, and platform simplification across all cloud platforms.
Cloud Cost Optimization (Azure & AWS)
- Own cloud financial management and lead a repeatable cost optimization operating model, including a monthly cadence, a ranked optimization backlog, and validated savings reporting.
- Execute Azure-first optimizations, starting with storage lifecycle/tiering and retention/archiving posture, followed by steady-state compute commitments; mirror proven patterns into AWS where applicable.
- Partner closely with Data Engineering and AI Studio to optimize shared, analytics, and AI-driven workloads.
- Establish cost transparency, forecasting, and accountability across platform services.
- Establish and enforce lifecycle management standards for high-cost storage patterns (e.g., collaboration/content storage and cloud object storage), including tiering, retention, and archival mechanisms.
Security, Policy & Compliance
- Partner closely with IT Security to define and enforce security and policy guardrails.
- Embed security-by-design across cloud platforms, identity, collaboration services, and network controls.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory, audit, and risk requirements across infrastructure and M365 platforms.
- Support audits, risk assessments, and remediation activities.
Leadership, Collaboration & Enablement
- Lead, mentor, and grow a high-performing team of cloud, infrastructure, and platform engineers.
- Act as a senior technical leader and trusted advisor to architecture, application, data, workplace, and security teams.
- Enable development and collaboration teams through well-designed platforms, clear standards, and self-service capabilities.
- Communicate platform strategy, risks, performance, and progress to senior stakeholders.
- Maintain a visible, outcome-based operating cadence (weekly priorities, monthly platform scorecard, quarterly roadmap) with clear throughput, ownership, and stakeholder reporting, with artifacts in Asana or Jira (and ServiceNOW for tickets support).
- Partner with Data Engineering, AI Studio, Enterprise Architecture, and application teams to define secure, scalable, cost-aware cloud patterns for analytics, AI, integration, and application workloads across Azure, AWS, and related platforms.
