Senior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer Jobs in North Carolina: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a senior cloud infrastructure engineer in North Carolina?
Senior cloud infrastructure engineering in North Carolina does not require a state-issued license. The typical path is a bachelor's degree in computer science or information systems followed by progressive cloud engineering roles, ideally at Research Triangle Park technology firms or Charlotte financial institutions. Employers consistently reward professional cloud certifications from AWS, Microsoft, or Google, combined with demonstrated experience managing production infrastructure. Building a portfolio of Terraform or Kubernetes projects accelerates the move into senior-level roles.
How much do senior cloud infrastructure engineers make in North Carolina?
Senior cloud infrastructure engineers in North Carolina earn a median of about $127,320 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,120 for the lowest 10% to over $173,410 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire senior cloud infrastructure engineers in North Carolina?

Which North Carolina cities have the most senior cloud infrastructure engineer jobs?
Charlotte, North Carolina, and Durham have the most senior cloud infrastructure engineer openings in North Carolina. Raleigh and Durham drive the largest share through the Research Triangle's dense cluster of technology companies and university-affiliated research institutions, while Charlotte's major financial services employers, including large bank headquarters and fintech operations, anchor demand in the western part of the state.

Yes, and more than most fields. The most realistic entry path is a cloud support or junior systems administrator role at a Research Triangle Park technology firm or a Charlotte-area financial institution, then building toward infrastructure engineering.
