Technical Director Jobs in North Carolina

INTRODUCTION

Brevard College is seeking a qualified individual to serve as our Technical Director. This is a full-time, salaried position, 11 months/year with health, dental and other related benefits. Hours will vary and will frequently include evenings and weekends.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversees technical needs for the campus community across multiple venues, with an emphasis on specialized tech in the Fine Arts.

• Trains and supervises a crew of student workers; together, the team will work closely with college and non-college users of the Porter Center and Ingram Auditorium to ensure that the technical functions of the performance spaces are maintained, and that user needs are met.

• Collaborates with various constituents to meet technical needs across campus.

• Oversees technical support for all events in the Porter Center for Performing Arts and Ingram Auditorium.

• Ensures the execution of all elements of technical programming and production for Fine Arts events, including audio and recording for music events and set construction and rigging for theatre productions.

• Supervises and trains work-study students assigned to technical positions, including adherence to safety and risk management protocols.

• Maintains inventory of all college-owned technical equipment and stock scenery, and oversees upkeep of performance spaces. Inventory is reported to the Fine Arts Division Chair at the end of each semester.

• When appropriate, assists with class activities in relevant Theatre or Music courses. Instructing a course or designing a production is possible (time permitting) for additional compensation.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• At least two years of relevant experience in a performing arts venue.

• Experience in both audio engineering and set construction preferred.

• Excellent time management and communication skills.

• Proven ability to work both independently and with others.

• Desire to work in a college setting that strongly emphasizes collaboration and professionalism.

• Demonstrated knowledge of current techniques, methods and procedures of theatre, dance, and music events including sound and lighting implementation; computerized lighting systems; appropriate safety precautions and procedures.

• Ability to lift and carry 50lbs.
