INTRODUCTION
Our thirst for technology is a part of everything we do. The Data Center Engineering team takes the physical design of our data centers into the future. Our lab mirrors a research and development department -- cutting-edge strategies are born, tested and tested again. Along with a team of great minds, you take on complex topics like how we use power or how to run state-of-the-art, environmentally-friendly facilities. You're a visionary who optimizes for efficiencies and never stops seeking improvements -- even small changes that can make a huge impact. You generate ideas, communicate recommendations to senior-level executives and drive implementation alongside facilities technicians. With your technical expertise, you ensure compliance with codes and standards, develop infrastructure improvements and serve as an expert in your specialty (e.g., cooling, electrical).
ABOUT THE JOB
As a Data Center Engineer, you will be a technical lead within the Data Center Delivery and Engineering (DCDE) team. In this role, you will serve as a highly motivated Electrical Engineer and Technical Program Manager, leveraging your demonstrated design, construction, equipment operation, and maintenance experience in the area of mission-critical facilities. You will be involved in the development of electrical systems ranging from incoming utility design down to the rack. Your involvement will span the entire project life-cycle, starting at due diligence, progressing through construction and commissioning, and developing into sustaining support for the internal operations team. You will provide technical leadership in a matrix organization, preparing critical documentation such as facility audits, total cost of ownership (TCO) analyses, and concept design reviews to ensure successful product delivery. Behind everything our users see online is the architecture built by the Technical Infrastructure team to keep it running. From developing and maintaining our data centers to building the next generation of Google platforms, we make Google's product portfolio possible. We're proud to be our engineers' engineers and love voiding warranties by taking things apart so we can rebuild them. We keep our networks up and running, ensuring our users have the best and fastest experience possible.

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10 years of experience in mission critical facility design and construction environments.
- 6 years of experience in bidding, designing, operating, and commissioning electrical distribution systems from high voltage (HV) transformer to branch circuits.
- 6 years of experience with mission-critical facilities, with a focus on market-available data center multi-tenant facilities (colocation).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree in Engineering, Business or other relevant field.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license.
- Experience with cross-functional teams to demonstrate an understanding of interrelated issues, including structural, civil, IT/Telecom, security, mechanical, and architectural aspects.
- Experience preparing technical documentation including facility review checklists, facility audits, statements of work (SOW), and total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis.
- Ability to demonstrate fluency in design software and analysis of electrical power systems within a matrix organization.
- Ability to travel 30% of the time domestically and internationally.
Responsibilities
- Perform technical evaluations and due diligence of market available multi-tenant facilities (i.e. colocation) for the deployment of Google services and critical infrastructure.
- Manage power system challenges across the project lifecycle, during concept design, detailed design, procurement, bidding, manufacturing, delivery, installation and commissioning on site.
- Identify and resolve issues raised by the cross functional teams and various external stakeholders.
- Understand and evaluate data center designs based on program requirements, level of redundancy, availability aims, risks, and identifying potential single points of failure in the design.
- Interface closely with cross-functional groups, such as the Third-Party Data Center Operations (3PDC-Ops), Energy and Land Strategy (ELS), and Front End Planning (FEP) teams to deliver the electrical solutions to third-party data center projects.
