- Strong understanding of motion principles for UX (e.g., transitions, hierarchy, feedback)
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (e.g., reduced motion) and performance optimization

Tips for Your Senior Motion Designer Job Search
Cut your reel to two minutes
Hiring teams for senior motion designer roles watch reels fast. Lead with your strongest three pieces, label each with the software and your specific contribution, and cut anything that slows the pace or shows process work without a polished payoff.
Tailor your reel to the studio type
A broadcast design reel will land flat at a product-focused tech company. Before applying, swap in pieces that match the employer's output, whether that's UI motion, brand campaigns, or title sequences, so reviewers immediately see relevant work.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists senior motion designer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Name every tool in your resume header
ATS filters for senior motion designer roles often screen on software keywords. List After Effects, Cinema 4D, Premiere, Nuke, or whatever you actually use in a dedicated tools line near the top, not buried in a job description paragraph.
Prepare a case study for your portfolio piece
Interviewers at senior level want to hear how you solved a creative problem, not just see the output. For each portfolio piece you plan to discuss, be ready to walk through the brief, your motion direction decisions, and any constraints you worked around.
Negotiate your title alongside compensation
At senior level, your title affects future offers. If a company counters with strong pay but a weaker title, ask directly whether a senior or lead designation is possible. Many studios have flexibility on title when they want a specific candidate.
Senior Motion Designer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most senior motion designers?
The companies hiring the most senior motion designers right now include Fireblocks, Apple, and Brex, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Michigan, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Demand is concentrated in entertainment, tech, and agency environments where motion is core to the product or brand.
How many senior motion designer jobs are remote?
About 9% of senior motion designer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of June 2026, making it one of the more remote-accessible senior creative roles. Post-production, UI motion, and brand animation work tends to be the most remote-friendly, while live-event broadcast and in-house studio roles more often require on-site presence.
How do you become a senior motion designer?
Most senior motion designers build toward the role by spending several years in a mid-level position, taking ownership of full projects rather than just execution tasks. Developing proficiency in at least one 3D tool alongside After Effects, building a portfolio that shows creative direction not just technical output, and seeking feedback on real client work are the steps that most consistently lead to a senior title.
Can you get hired as a senior motion designer without years of studio experience?
It's possible if your portfolio demonstrates senior-level thinking, meaning you show creative problem-solving, not just polished execution. Freelance projects, large personal projects, or contract work that mirrors studio output can substitute for full-time tenure. The reel does more work than the resume at this level, so leading with complex, self-directed pieces is your strongest argument.
What does the senior motion designer interview process look like?
Most senior motion designer processes start with a reel review and a recruiter screen, followed by a creative interview where you walk a hiring team through two or three portfolio pieces in depth. Some studios include a paid or timed design challenge. Final rounds typically involve a conversation with a creative director or head of design about your process, leadership experience, and how you handle feedback.
Where can I find and apply to senior motion designer jobs?
You can find and apply to senior motion designer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialization and experience level, then apply directly to each one that fits.
